Chapter 52 Redemption Completed
Chapter 52 Redemption Completed
As teams in the same Pacific Division, the Warriors and the Suns will face each other four times in the regular season. So the Suns don't actually need to go all out against the Warriors in a regular season game. However, due to media hype and league support, coupled with the fact that it was broadcast nationwide and even had viewers from many countries in Asia and Europe, both sides took this game very seriously.
The Suns have raised their defensive intensity to playoff level, with players using every trick in the book in normal physical confrontations.
In this respect, the Warriors are at a disadvantage. They don't have many players with playoff experience, and compared to the Suns, they underestimated the intensity of playoff-level competition.
However, the Warriors had already united as one, and after Baron Davis voluntarily gave up possession of the ball, the team's morale was completely boosted.
Entering the fourth quarter, both sides immediately fielded their starters for a fierce battle, with Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas both playing despite having four fouls each.
On the Warriors' side, Wang Kai and Jason Richardson both had accumulated four fouls, with both wing players and interior players carrying multiple fouls.
After Wang Kai advanced the ball to the frontcourt, he used changes in dribbling rhythm to get rid of Marion's pressing, and Kurt Thomas immediately came up to cover.
After drawing the Suns' defense, Wang Kai handed the ball off to Baron Davis, who was running towards him. Davis received the ball and pretended to drive, but after attracting the Suns' defensive attention, he handed the ball off again to Wang Kai.
Wang Kai received the ball and immediately hit a three-pointer, giving the Warriors the lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
The Warriors' offense tends to be relatively simple, because the more complex the tactics, the more the team's execution is required, and they don't yet have that level of execution and chemistry. However, they are quite good at executing small-scale tactics.
The Suns also scored on offense. Nash used a screen to get rid of Byron's defense and then passed the ball to the weak-side corner at a wide angle. Raja Bell received the ball and hit his fourth three-pointer of the game.
Raja Bell has demonstrated his full "3D" player abilities this season, and his three-point shooting has been a key factor in the Suns' seven-game winning streak.
The league is now beginning to diverge. While some traditional powerhouses have started to value three-pointers, they are using them only as a supplementary tactic. Teams like the Warriors, Suns, and Bucks, on the other hand, have already or are about to make three-pointers a regular or even primary tactic for their teams.
As the game progressed, the score remained close, and the united Warriors kept the game in check with consistent baskets.
After Wang Kai took possession of the ball, the Warriors' defense remained the same, but their offense gradually showed its strength. They executed their small-range offensive routines very well and made decisive and bold three-point shots.
Baron Davis also changed his usual carefree style, and there were even scenes of him fighting for the floor ball.
With four minutes and fifty seconds left in the game, the score was tied at 104, and the game had entered a heated phase. The Warriors fans at home could no longer sit still and stood up to watch the game.
At the crucial moment, Nash began to show his MVP strength. He first shook off the Warriors' defense and drove into the paint, scoring a layup over Jason Richardson who was helping on defense, and also drawing a foul from Jason.
Richardson, who had five fouls, was not substituted, and the Warriors intended to fight the Suns to the bitter end with this lineup.
Immediately afterwards, Nash accurately predicted Wang Kai's passing route, intercepted the ball, and Marion took the lead, taking off low to the ground and slamming it home. In just two offensive possessions, the Suns extended their lead to 5 points.
Nash's free throw shooting was incredibly consistent. His previous and-one free throw was his tenth free throw of the game, and he made it all tenth, achieving a 100% free throw percentage.
Nash really went all out in this game. He usually only gets six or seven free throws per game, but today he already had ten free throws before the game was even over. This shows that Nash attacked the Warriors' interior more frequently than usual.
The Warriors' offense failed again, and Wang Kai's three-point attempt missed. The Suns tried to launch another fast break, but Baron Davis interrupted the Suns' fast break with a foul.
With the Warriors having committed four fouls, Nash made both free throws, extending the lead to seven points.
With a 7-point lead going into the final three minutes, the Suns looked like they had one foot in the bag for victory.
But the Warriors didn't give up. First, Baron Davis hit a three-pointer despite the defense, stopping the bleeding for the Warriors.
This time, Byron's move was unusually decisive.
After scoring, Byron roared with passion, encouraging his teammates and demonstrating his power to the opponents.
"Keep it up, guys, we'll win!"
The team leader is, after all, the team leader, and Byron's encouraging and demonstrative remarks brought the atmosphere to a fever pitch.
On the Suns' offense, Barbosa used his speed to break through Dunleavy's switch defense and then made a mid-range jumper.
The Warriors are still down by six points.
Wang Kai advanced to the frontcourt, and Jason Richardson stepped up to set a screen. After using the screen to get rid of the defender, Wang Kai jumped and shot without any hesitation.
Marion's defense was indeed good; his hand was almost touching Wang Kai's face, but he still couldn't stop Wang Kai from hitting the three-pointer.
The score difference between the two sides has narrowed to only three points.
Barbosa then drove hard to the basket and drew a foul, making one of two free throws to give the Suns a four-point lead.
Jason Richardson committed his sixth foul and was ejected from the game.
The Warriors brought in Fisher, who immediately received a pass from Wang Kai and made a mid-range jumper. In the crucial moment, Fisher's hand was not soft at all.
With one minute and thirty seconds left in the game, the Warriors were still down by two points.
The Suns missed their shot, but Marion desperately tipped the ball to the outside, where Raja Bell made his fifth three-pointer of the game.
With a five-point lead, the Suns seem poised to win this highly anticipated game.
However, just as the Suns fans were preparing to celebrate their victory, Wang Kai stepped up and first used his skillful step-back move to hit a very difficult fadeaway three-pointer.
Taking advantage of Barbosa's lapse in concentration, the Suns stole the ball and drove to the frontcourt, hitting a mid-range jumper that instantly wiped out their five-point lead.
The score was tied at 125 with 31 seconds remaining.
Nash kept the pace down, trying to secure the victory with a high success rate, but their shot at the 24-second mark bounced off the rim.
After securing the rebound, Wang Kai didn't call a timeout. He dribbled the ball straight up the court, and the Suns players swarmed him like madmen. Overtime was better than losing the game.
Wang Kai rushed to the frontcourt and broke through the Suns' defense one after another, with Warriors players following suit.
With three seconds left, Wang Kai jumped and shot, catching the Suns off guard.
However, to everyone's surprise, Wang Kai's shot did not fly towards the basket, but looked far away, still quite a distance from the basket.
Just when people thought Wang Kai had made a mistake, a familiar figure appeared under the basket. Baron Davis jumped up and caught the ball with his left hand, then slammed it towards the basket in mid-air.
