Chapter 226 A Heart-to-Heart Talk in the Principal's Office
Chapter 226 A Heart-to-Heart Talk in the Principal's Office
"You have a week to prepare. After that, we will decide your dragon opponents by drawing lots. I look forward to your performance, warriors." After announcing the first point, the Minister of Magic left with his people. Even Percy, who was standing behind him, could only exchange a glance with me before leaving.
"Fellow warriors, there's a solo interview coming up later. Would you be willing to stay and participate?" Rita Skeeter, a reporter from the Daily Prophet, smiled and stepped forward to ask us after everyone from the Ministry of Magic had left.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, I have something to discuss with our principal later, so I can't cooperate with your interview." Are you kidding me? Chat with this woman? That would just be making things up; I won't give her that chance.
"Oh, that's a pity. What about the other heroes?" Only one of them refused, aren't there still three? Rita Skeeter wasn't about to let them go.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, Harry probably doesn't have time either. He'll be going with me to talk to Headmaster Dumbledore. We'll have a lot to discuss, so we'll have to leave now. Please make yourselves at home." Ha, how could I let Harry be the butt of this woman's gossip? I know exactly what kind of person she is. Harry will never be able to get involved in this kind of public opinion pressure.
Harry knows I'll handle all of this for him; he can't go wrong by listening to Ayers.
And let me tell you, when Dumbledore saw how I was defending Harry, he wondered if it was wrong of him to show hostility when he first heard Ayers' full name. A name is just a representation of identity, but Ayers is still that good kid.
I pulled Harry along as we left the small room where the heroes gathered, following Severus and Headmaster Dumbledore. The conversation between the brilliant choreographer Rita Skeeter and the other two heroes that followed was not what I wanted to hear.
We all came out from another exit. After all, my full name and Harry's status as the fourth hero were big things, and if we were to reappear in the Great Hall, it would definitely be packed with people.
When the four of us arrived at the headmaster's office, we were surprised to see Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, there as well, which gave us a chance to have a good chat.
We took our seats. Dumbledore sat in the host's seat, Sirius Black sat to Dumbledore's left, Harry sat next to his godfather, and Severus sat opposite Sirius Black. I sat next to Severus.
"Harry, you really didn't put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Sirius was already living at Hogwarts, and he had applied to Dumbledore a few days ago to be an assistant teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts, also to protect his godson.
He was sitting in the professor's chair when the list of selected candidates was announced.
"I know I'm too old to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, so I never planned to participate in this event." The Harry of today is not the one I knew in my past life. He is becoming more and more independent and self-reliant when he hangs out with us, and he seems much more confident.
"And what about you, Ayers?" Severus was also a little surprised. Ayers seemed to have said to him that he wasn't interested in this tournament, so how come he himself had also put in a shot?
“I didn’t plan to participate in this competition. I can walk in and register by myself. I’m pretty sure I didn’t register.” I crossed my legs and took out two cups of coffee and three cups of milk tea from my portable backpack, handing them to the group.
Upon hearing what I said, it was now Dumbledore and Sirius Black's turn to frown.
"And what's your name?" This was the first time Sirius Black had ever known me in all this time that he knew my full name.
This question caught the attention of Headmaster Dumbledore.
"My parents named it," I said jokingly.
"You know what I mean by asking, what is your relationship with Gellert Grindelwald?" Sirius Black asked, getting straight to the heart of Dumbledore's question.
“My brother.” I said it casually, and everyone who heard it was stunned, except for Harry and Severus, of course.
Harry was simply spacing out, while Severus knew.
"What?" Sirius Black exclaimed in surprise, while Headmaster Dumbledore stared wide-eyed in astonishment.
“Judging by his age, he could be your grandfather,” Sirius Black stated directly.
And sure enough, Headmaster Dumbledore thought the same thing. He felt that he was old enough to be Ayers' grandfather, so how could his only lover have such a young brother? His lover's parents must have passed away long ago.
"Do you really think so? In the time it's been since we last met, I could have graduated from Hogwarts several times over." I didn't directly say that I could jump through time, but my explanation was acceptable to both Headmaster Dumbledore and Sirius Black.
After all, they had seen me appear at different times, and they thought I might possess some kind of spatial magic that they were unaware of.
"Why didn't you mention you were from the Grindelwald family when you introduced yourself?" Sirius Black asked.
"For a while it was because I had amnesia, and for another while it was because I didn't want to expose my family so soon." I deliberately looked in the direction of Headmaster Dumbledore.
Given that my sister-in-law, the headmistress, is always suspicious, I think it would be easier for me to keep my family name a secret at Hogwarts.
I don't want to be constantly monitored, and I wouldn't allow it even if the person monitoring me is my own brother's partner.
"So what are you going to do now? Everyone in the school knows you're from the Grindelwald family." I feel like Sirius Black is becoming Dumbledore's best mouth double these days.
"What do I have to deal with? What can they do to me? They're just wary of me, and those who like me don't like my family." I smiled and looked at the two people opposite me. Harry was alright, but Sirius Black was a bit difficult to deal with.
Sirius Black's favorability rating is only 20, and I don't know how to win him over.
Feeling a bit of a headache, I rubbed my head and took a sip of coffee to ease it.
Principal Dumbledore and Sirius Black were quite speechless at my statement.
"Ayers, can you protect Harry in this Triwizard Tournament?" This time, Headmaster Dumbledore finally spoke.
"As long as I'm here, I will protect Harry." He's my target, one of my lovers, how could I not protect him?
As for the others, I can't be bothered with those I'm not familiar with, and it depends on how well I know them.
"By the way, I didn't go into that room with you guys. What were those people from the Ministry of Magic talking about in there?" Sirius Black felt he had asked most of the questions he wanted to know, and started asking about the Triwizard Tournament.
For some reason, Sirius Black seemed very rational today, not at all like the hot-tempered Sirius Black.
"The first task was to retrieve a golden egg from a dragon, to test the participants' courage, and it had to be done in front of the other students and the judging panel. Also, the champions were not allowed to ask for or accept any help from their teachers while completing the task. Their only weapon in the first round was their wand. That's all." Harry could now tell his godfather the competition requirements.
"Isn't this unfair to Harry? Good heavens~ what grade is he in? The other heroes are all much stronger than him." It feels like this is the real Sirius Black, was the one just now possessed?
“Sirius, thank you for your compliment,” I said with a smile to Sirius Black across from me.
"Of all the heroes, you're the one I'm least worried about, Ayers." Sirius Black's statement was met with agreement from everyone.
Seeing the others nod slightly, I just smiled and looked at Harry across from me with a relaxed and carefree expression.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Harry asked curiously, looking at Ayers, who was staring at him.
"And what about you, Harry? How do you plan to deal with that dragon?" I can't be by his side the whole time during this competition. I can't go into the arena to help him, can I? Why don't we just ask him this question here and ask Headmaster Dumbledore and Sirius Black for some help?
“Yes, Harry, what are your plans?” Sirius looked at Harry, also wanting to know if Harry had any good ideas.
"I don't know, Ayers, what do you think I should do?" Harry hadn't planned to participate in the first place, and now that he had been selected, he hadn't prepared anything.
Sirius was surprised that his own godchildren would ask Ayers for their opinion instead of his.
“Harry, think about what you’re best at. Then find out your opponent’s weaknesses, use your strengths to exploit those weaknesses, and finally, protect yourself.” I didn’t give Harry a specific plan; I just gave him a way of doing things.
"Okay, I'll think about it carefully." Although Harry was kind, he was not stupid at all, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to stand against Voldemort in the end.
The other three never expected me to teach Harry this way. They've all been through a lot, and they probably don't understand people and situations as well as Ayers.
"Now you probably don't have anything else to ask us, right? I imagine it will be quite interesting when I get back to the Slytherin common room after all this commotion." I finished the last sip of my coffee, stood up, shook my robes, and prepared to leave the headmaster's common room.
"Do you need me to come with you?" Severus asked casually, quite calmly.
"No need, I can handle it." If it weren't for the three big light bulbs around, I would have given Severus a loving kiss.
The remaining three watched me leave before they resumed drinking their coffee and milk tea.
“Then I think I should leave now, Godfather and Headmaster Dumbledore. I need to go back and make some preparations.” Harry felt a little uncomfortable sitting there after Ayers had already left.
"Harry, you should go back now. Be careful. We may need to talk about some things." Headmaster Dumbledore also felt that it wasn't good for Harry to stay here; there were some things Harry shouldn't be listening to right now.
“Okay, then I’ll head back now.” Harry also stood up and left the headmaster’s office; he needed to go back to the Gryffindor common room to deal with the rumors.
"Severus, did you already know Ayers' identity?" Only now, after Harry and I had already left, did Headmaster Dumbledore formally ask Severus if he knew about my situation.
“Yes, I went with him to release Gellert Grindelwald.” Severus had anticipated that Dumbledore would ask about this.
I've already spoken to him beforehand; Severus can tell Dumbledore about Gellert Grindelwald directly.
"Where is Gellert Grindelwald now?" Headmaster Dumbledore looked at Severus's expression seriously, not letting his performance slip by for a moment.
“I don’t know.” Severus genuinely didn’t know where Gellert Grindelwald was right now, and he wasn’t going to keep track of what his lover’s brother was doing.
Suddenly, Severus seemed to remember something and looked at Headmaster Dumbledore with suspicion. If he remembered correctly, the headmaster seemed to have some connection with his lover's brother.
"How could you not know that you and Ayers have a very unusual relationship?" Sirius, sitting opposite, glanced at Severus with disdain.
"So what? My relationship with Ayers isn't my relationship with his brother." Severus is no longer the man who would get angry at a slight rebuke from Sirius. Now, apart from Ayers, nothing can significantly affect his emotions.
“Sirius, I don’t think Severus is hiding anything. He probably really doesn’t know about Gellert Grindelwald.” Headmaster Dumbledore stopped Sirius, who wanted to continue arguing with Severus. Having known Severus for so many years, Dumbledore knew him very well. Severus wasn’t lying, and besides, there was no need for him to lie.
As for whether Ayers knew or not, that's hard to say. Gellert Grindelwald was his brother, how could he not know where his brother was? He just didn't want to say.
If I knew what Headmaster Dumbledore was thinking, I would definitely shout that I was wronged! My own brother and Riddle have disappeared without a trace, and I really didn't know where they went. It's been so long since we've been in contact.
However, I do have a feeling that I might see my beloved partner soon.
I don't know what he's planning yet, but he's definitely involved in my selection for the top three competition.
"Since Harry and Ayers are both participating in the Triwizard Tournament, let's do our best to protect them. Sirius, keep a close eye on Harry's safety, and Severus, keep an eye on Ayers's situation." Headmaster Dumbledore didn't have any better ideas at the moment, so this was the only arrangement he could make for now.
