Chapter 911 Where is the Amazing Gwen?
When Peter returned from Asgard, he found himself with nothing to do again. With nothing else to do, he went out for a patrol, confirming that there was nothing in New York City that Spider-Man needed to concern him with that day. He then returned home, turned on his computer to continue playing Three Men and a Dog, and kept the police and fire channels open, ready to strike at any moment.
But perhaps because the news of the secret war was too explosive, the villains haven't come out to cause trouble yet.
Peter played the game for hours, and New York City was unusually peaceful. Not only were there no internal police communications, but even emergency calls became rare. For a moment, Peter wondered if he had traveled to another universe.
That doesn't make sense either. If the supervillains aren't in the mood to cause trouble, why aren't ordinary people causing any problems? It's not that there are no emergency calls, but there aren't any real crises or dangers. In fact, some of the reports could be handled by the NYPD or bystanders, so Spider-Man isn't really needed.
"I think I'm sick. I suddenly feel that peaceful New York is not normal. Could it be that Fisk restricted the crime rate in New York to participate in the competition? Even that couldn't make it this clean."
After careful consideration, Peter frowned and came to a reasonable conclusion: it was very likely that the Superhumans had artificially lowered the crime rate to ensure the performance of the contestants. Peter hoped that this system could be preserved permanently.
Peter grumbled to himself for a moment, then started scrolling through his phone again, before realizing something else: Gwen had actually really quieted down, not bothering him at all. Not only had she not come, but she hadn't even sent a text message. Peter suddenly felt that things might be very bad, and he was about to fall into the inevitable cycle of "if the child isn't causing trouble, she's definitely up to something."
So Peter nervously sent Felicia a message, asking her about Gwen and checking on her condition.
Then Felicia brought good news: she had calmed Gwen down, which was why Gwen hadn't reacted recently. However, Gwen herself wasn't convinced; Peter would still need to persuade her to participate in the Secret War.
Peter scratched his head and finally decided to leave this problem to his future self. He decided not to think about this complicated issue for now. Since his spider sense hadn't triggered, it was probably nothing serious. So Peter decided to continue with the three of them and the dog.
Inside Felicia's house, Gwen, who was visiting for the first time, seemed both curious and a little nervous. Although she had been trying to find opportunities to practice combat skills with Felicia recently, they usually went to places like gyms that Felicia had provided addresses for. This was her first time practicing at Felicia's house.
"A high-rise duplex in downtown Manhattan—"
"Hmm? Didn't Peter tell you?" Felicia looked at the message on her phone with a half-smile, replied briefly to the boy on the other end, then put her phone away and raised an eyebrow: "He's already been to my house."
'
Felicia was somewhat surprised by Gwen's silence: "Why are you so quiet today?"
"No, no, I just—you've always thought it was funny to say these things, so you say them?"
Felicia didn't deny it. Instead, she turned around, took out a bottle of wine, poured herself a glass, and then refuted Gwen's opinion: "Absolutely not. I just thought it was funny to tease you, so I said those things, whether it's you or that little boy. But some people don't buy it, so I try not to talk to them."
Gwen sighed, somewhat exasperated, before smelling the alcohol. She looked at Felicia with considerable surprise: "Are you drinking?!"
"Otherwise what? What do you think's in here? A bottle of mineral water that costs 2000 yuan?"
"But, but not a minor————"
"Isn't it a bit unbelievable to regulate alcohol consumption in a country where so many minors are smoking tobacco? Not to mention I don't smoke tobacco at all."
Felicia rolled her eyes at Gwen and took a sip of her drink: "Besides, a little bit helps you relax, just don't get drunk."
Gwen expressed skepticism, and Felicia went on to explain: "Then, your boyfriend said you didn't really approve of him going to participate in that secret war, so you wanted me to help."
"We need your help? Uh, I don't understand."
"He probably came to me asking how to phrase things so you wouldn't cause trouble. I took on this task, since I felt he didn't quite understand what you were planning to do, or perhaps he did, but he wasn't willing to face the situation." Felicia took another sip of her drink. "I asked him a lot of questions about you, so, to put it simply, whether it's doing this now—what was that spider thing again?
"Ghost Spider"
"There are too many spiders like you, I can't even remember all your names. In short, all along, whether you gained your powers or became the Ghost Spider, it wasn't because you, like him, planned to become a superhero, or because, like Mu En, S.H.I.E.L.D. came knocking on your door. Your sole purpose in doing this is—"
Felicia didn't speak, but waited until Gwen remained silent before saying, "You're worried you won't be able to stay by his side, right?"
"I—no, I'm not."
"Well, let's go a step further. You're worried that you can't get involved in any of the battles he's facing, and that if he dies on some battlefield, you won't be able to be by his side. To be more precise, you realize you have no right to know; you have no idea what he's going through, until this time, when the Transcendent laid everything out in front of everyone. And then you can't help him at all."
Gwen glared at Felicia, huffing, "So, how are you going to persuade me?"
"Why should I advise you? If I wanted to, I'd tell him how to do it, though I'm not sure if it'll work out." Felicia laughed. "But here's an interesting contrast: do you think Cindy Moon would fully support him?"
"————That's different. Cindy can sense Peter at any time, so of course she knows if something is wrong with Peter. I'm different."
Felicia exclaimed "Ah!" and then laughed: "In that case, why not seize this opportunity?"
Is this a chance for a life-or-death separation, a way to tie someone down?
