Chapter 53 The Traitor
Chapter 53 The Traitor
As Tian Tian smelled the aroma of the hamburger, her empty stomach began to convulse.
But she can't care about these trivial matters now.
This morning, she waited for a long time on the playground where it was time to exercise, but none of her teammates showed up, and not even Lizzie came to find her.
At that time, Tian Tian made the worst guess in her mind.
If all her teammates are gone, she can only rely on herself now.
Tian Tian no longer aspired to complete the mission perfectly. Her plan was to wait until nightfall, when Quaid planned to sneak away on his own, to kidnap him and leave with him.
Anyway, this fatso won't reveal that the prison was destroyed, otherwise no one here will let him off the hook.
So after finishing her regular work in the morning, she took advantage of the lull in everyone's vigilance at noon and followed the pipes to Quaid's office.
Tian Tian carefully moved her numb limbs, turned her head slightly, and kept her eyes fixed on Quaid, not daring to relax for a moment.
However, Tian Tian did prepare a way out for herself.
Another option is to show yourself first, subdue Quaid, force him to reveal the escape pod's password, and then drug him.
Thinking this, Tian Tian reached into her pocket and stroked the bottle of sleeping powder.
This was a treasure she had swiped from a passing prison guard; it might save her life in a critical moment.
However, this plan was a last resort, because Tian Tian didn't have any suitable weapons, only a small tool for tightening screws.
Tian Tian watched longingly as Quaid finished his hamburger and then devoured all the fries in a few bites.
He finally sucked on his ketchup-covered fingers, sipped his cola, and started tidying up the office.
A short while later, a crisp knock sounded on the door.
"Enter."
Quaid stopped what he was doing and sat back down in his seat.
"Warden, I've come to report on what happened last night." The person who came was the team leader from last night.
However, what excited Tian Tian was that she heard Laura's, also known as Lizzie's, voice.
Because of the obstructed view, Tian Tian couldn't see Li Qi.
Quaid lit a cigar, glanced at Lizzie, and asked, "Who's that person behind you?"
"Laura was the hero last night. She was the first to spot the fugitive, and she did a good job with the subsequent interrogation. She's here with me to give a report," the man said calmly.
Quaid wasn't really interested in what had happened the night before or what the man had to report.
After all, everything here will be gone after tonight.
But he still had to put on an act, so Quaid followed procedure and had the team leader begin his report.
Lizzie secretly peered at the ceiling from behind, and sure enough, upon closer inspection, she could see a dark mass inside the vent.
In order to make an appearance before Tian Tian, Lizzie stepped forward, picked up Quaid's water glass, and said, "Warden, let me get you a glass of water."
After saying that, he left with his water glass without waiting for Quaid to speak.
The water dispenser is located diagonally in front of the vent; from this position, Tian Tian should be able to see herself.
While getting water, Lizzie glanced back at the ceiling without thinking. The moment their eyes met, both of their hearts calmed down.
After placing the water glass in front of Quaid, Lizzie stood a few steps away from the side of the desk, her hands behind her back, looking like an honest person.
From this position, Tian Tian can see Lizzie's back perfectly.
"The bomb... has been found. It's waiting for me in the laundry room." Tian Tian stared intently at Lizzie's hands, trying to decipher the message she was conveying.
Without lingering, Tian Tian, having received the information, tiptoed away and slowly left the area.
............
Inside the laundry room.
Tian Tian leaned against the door of the laundry room, her ear pressed against it.
Until she heard footsteps, she could tell that they were Lizzie's footsteps.
"Finally, someone has shown up. This morning I thought you were all dead."
Tian Tian opened the door and welcomed Li Qi in, sounding very happy.
"Something unexpected happened last night, and I couldn't come back in time because of something else."
Lizzie wasn't really keen on talking about what happened last night, and was just giving a perfunctory answer.
Although Lizzie didn't show anything, Tian Tian still keenly sensed something was amiss.
"What happened?" Tian Tian felt inexplicably uneasy.
After thinking for a long time, Lizzie decided not to tell her that Zeng Luo and the other person were dead.
She was afraid that Tian Tian might be the kind of person with poor mental fortitude, which would disrupt everyone's plans.
"It's nothing, let's get down to business."
Su Zixu and Liu Runyu found the bomb, but they couldn't give it to you this morning.
"I need to help them get back to their cells and retrieve the bomb. Your task is to climb over to their laundry room," Lizzie said quickly.
"Okay, I'm on my way. What happens after I get the bomb? How do I set it up?"
"We'll be in his office during dinner time, before 7 p.m.
He's usually not in the office around dinner time, but I can't be 100% sure, so you'll have to play it by ear.
"Alright, let's get started."
After saying that, Li Tian and the other person parted ways.
Before entering the pipe, Tian Tian took one last, deep look at Lizzie's back.
She had a bad feeling; perhaps Lizzie was hiding something bad.
On the other side, Lizzie quickly walked towards the interrogation room. She glanced up and saw that it was already four o'clock in the afternoon. She was now racing against death.
The good news was that when she came to pick up Su and Liu, she found that they had woken up, but were not in good condition.
He can walk, but he walks with a limp.
After greeting the prison guards on duty, Lizzie helped them back to their cells, one in each arm, ostensibly because they needed to rest.
As Su Zixu passed by the first interrogation room, he heard Kurt's voice, and his pupils constricted slightly.
As if he had learned something, his eyes gradually turned cold.
On the way back, Lizzie explained the next steps of the plan to the two of them, who nodded in understanding.
At the same time, Su Zixu also explained his plan, and after repeated discussions, it was finally finalized.
The three of them returned to the deserted Second District, where only they and the two guards on duty at the door were in the cell.
Because Lizzie was a female prison guard, she was stopped at the door.
Su Zixu glanced at her from afar, and Lizzie understood and left.
She has done everything she could; now all she needs to do is wait, wait for Su Zixu's signal.
"Liu Runyu," Su Zixu said quietly, gazing at the upper bunk that belonged to Old Zeng.
"Brother, I want to go home." Liu Runyu slumped onto the bed, his voice choked with sobs.
"Lizzie is the mole; she killed Zeng Xiang and Ron," Su Zixu said calmly.
"Huh? Why?...What good does this do her?"
Liu Runyu's mind went blank for a moment; even with his intelligence, he couldn't figure out how Su Zixu had deduced it.
"I don't know, but I'm sure that the person sitting in the first interrogation room last night, although the voice was that of that junior prison guard, the tone was definitely not the same. That was Brother Luo's way of speaking."
Su Zixu frowned slightly, his face darkening.
"But you just said that we need to signal Lizzie when we take action tonight."
As Liu Runyu spoke, he struggled to lift a brick from under the bed. "Brother, come help me. I'm a cripple now."
