Chapter 340 : Astrid’s Brain Cooked Up Worse Porn Than Adelina Could

Hundreds of carriages rolled toward Veldora as the sun climbed up to announce the morning.Last evening, right after the letter incident, the entire Order of the Silver Vanguard had been ordered to gather and prepare for a mission. Anyone who missed the expedition was promised a death sentence as their farewell gift.

That brutal little decree threw the whole continent into chaos, and it still took almost three full hours just to get the Order fully out the door.

Right now, inside one of the carriages, two rankers sat side by side, staring at Astrid as she chewed through her own nails.

Rora, ranked first in the Order and one of the three sages, leaned toward the man beside her. Albert. Ranked second, captain of the Order, and currently wearing a smile that did not match the soul behind it.

"Hey." Her whisper was sharp. "What in the hell is wrong with her? This is my very first time seeing this psycho actually look afraid. Is this expedition some kind of death pit she is gleefully tossing us into?"

Albert glanced back at the laziest and most dangerous woman in her late twenties. The same one who once fought in a war for Lord Claude’s faction and massacred thousands of warriors when she was barely fifteen.

"Do not worry," he said with that polite smile still in place. "You will get used to your new life soon enough. It just takes a few headaches and a small spiritual crisis where you question every single decision you ever made, but after that it starts to feel completely normal."

Rora stared at him, utterly confused. The trauma sitting behind that smile was almost visible to the naked eye.

"What in the hell is that supposed to mean? Look, I am genuinely pissed right now. I thought her birthday would be the perfect excuse to barge into the Aleris mansion and finally slack off for a couple of glorious weeks without worrying about errands for our stupid Order or those vermin who keep trying to butter me up just to drag me into their problems. But boom, my entire vacation plan is wasted, and you are making it worse by twisting the reason like that."

Albert kept his polite smile perfectly fixed. "I am not the one twisting anything, Rora. Our entire fate got permanently twisted the exact second Lord Claude handed absolute authority over to Lady Astrid. But getting back to your actual question, I do have a tiny clue about what is happening. Basically, there is a certain professor that Lady Astrid has taken quite a massive liking—"

Albert suddenly choked on his own spit and violently coughed. He had just been one syllable away from revealing a secret that guaranteed his immediate public execution.

He cleared his throat and corrected his posture. "I mean, a professor she deeply respects. Well, that specific professor received a letter stating the Queen of Veldora has been abducted. So that is exactly what our grand mission is today. We are going to rescue her."

Rora stared at him with an incredibly flat expression that basically begged him to try a better lie. She waited a moment. Albert did not drop his polite act.

"Are you actively trying to completely destroy my last nerve today. Do you genuinely expect me to believe a single word of that absolute garbage. You seriously need to get your facts straight, because that spoiled brat will never respect another living soul, let alone some random man. And even if there is a rescue mission, it should never require dragging out the entire Vanguard like a global world war just started. You could have easily handled whatever pathetic rebellion kidnapped the queen entirely by yourself."

Albert shrugged with that irritating smile still locked in place. "You are completely free to believe whatever you want, but I just gave you the truth. If you still have so many questions, why not just go ask her directly. You were her former teacher, so I am highly confident she will not try to murder you even in her current state."

Rora clicked her tongue and crossed her arms. "Fine. I will go ask her myself. But seriously, fuck this entire damn Aleris family. The father permanently robbed my freedom with a literal slave contract, and now the daughter just violently butchered my dream vacation."

Albert immediately clamped his hand over her mouth. "Please refrain from saying such cursed words out loud, Rora. If anyone else hears you speak like that, your execution will be added to today’s schedule."

He pulled his hand back and flashed an incredibly bright smile while giving her a cheerful thumbs up. "Oh, and I wish you all the best. May the goddess of luck protect your soul."

Rora felt her confusion and anger entirely peak. She stood up straight, completely ignoring Albert and his incredibly punchable smile, and started walking slowly toward Astrid, who was currently floating in a completely different universe inside her own head.

During her short walk, Rora felt a dozen questions burning in her throat. But something about this whole situation felt terribly off, especially with how ominously Albert had just prayed for her survival. She decided she needed to approach the entire scenario very indirectly.

She began calculating in her head.

’If I actually entertain the absurd possibility that Albert is right and this brat is genuinely trembling over a rescue mission, then there must be an apocalyptic threat waiting for us. But who could require our entire gathered force. Demons perhaps. I heard the demons are making moves again and some foolish kingdom is currently fighting them. But even demons would never dare to attack us directly. Or maybe a literal Archdemon from the Nine Hells is secretly pulling strings from the shadows to trick this brat into a catastrophic deal. If that is the actual case, then I definitely need to step up and take charge.’

She carefully approached Astrid, who looked like she was violently murdering someone inside her head.

"Lady Astrid. May I know the identity of the enemy we are fighting."

It took several long minutes for Astrid to snap out of her trance. She turned around and suddenly threw herself into a desperate hug. "You are finally here, master."

Rora’s mind completely short circuited. She screamed inside her own head. ’What in the actual fuck is happening right now. Where is her signature look of absolute disgust. Where are her usual creative insults about my pathetic commoner bloodline.’

She looked down at the genuinely heartbroken expression buried into her chest. ’An evil spirit has definitely taken over her body. Or precisely, a good spirit.’

Rora cleared her throat loudly.

"Please just tell me the current situation. Are you doing alright. And who exactly is this threat we are mobilizing against. I am sure you know about our enemy."

Astrid gave a sad smile before a wave of pure venomous rage washed over her eyes. "An enemy you say. Oh yeah. I know her. I know her extremely well actually. But I only realize the truth now because I was brutally deceived by her innocent act for so very long."

Astrid went silent again to mentally curse her enemy. Rora swallowed nervously. "So, is this female warlord really powerful enough to threaten our entire Vanguard."

Astrid stared right through her with a terrifyingly serene smile. "Of course we must fear her. Beings exactly like her are the absolute most dangerous monsters in existence. She might look like some flawless goddess of kindness or a literal goddess of absolute purity. But the exact second she reveals her true colors, your entire world completely loses all its light and meaning."

Rora felt a massive headache forming. She was trying so hard to piece these apocalyptic clues together, but her logical mind simply could not comprehend the sheer absurdity of the actual truth.

Astrid buried her face deeply into her knees. "People are absolutely right when they say the true enemy always hides among your own circle. The ones you trust completely will never hesitate to stab you straight in the back the very first chance they get. One specific snake just bit me so deeply that I honestly have no idea what to do anymore."

Rora looked at her with total bewilderment, but her protective instincts completely took over anyway.

"Young lady, I am not understanding a single bit of this cosmic riddle. But you need to know that if you are facing any kind of trouble, you can trust me to handle it permanently."

Astrid instantly grabbed Rora’s hands. Her eyes gleamed with sudden desperate hope. "Really. Will you truly do absolutely anything to help me."

But that brief spark of hope died a violent death the exact next second.

She remembered that Jax was deeply in love with her enemy. Erasing Adelina from existence was a big no-no, because it would make him hate her forever. In fact, she finally realized that Adelina was already miles ahead of her in the race for his heart.

And then her face turned red as her stupid brain happily volunteered the worst possible visual to torture her with.

Jax was laid out flat on a luxurious silk bed, completely surrendered. Adelina was on top of him, perched on his cock like a queen on her throne, churning her hips down with the smug practiced rhythm of a woman who had been married for twenty years and absolutely knew what she was doing.

Her motherly pussy was milking him for everything he had while Jax’s face wore the dumb melted expression of a man who had just discovered fire for the first time.

And to drive the dagger deeper into Astrid’s soul, imaginary Adelina turned her face directly toward imaginary Astrid. She raised one elegant queenly finger. The middle one. And smiled that polite royal smile while patting her own faintly swollen belly with her other hand like she was accepting a lifetime achievement award.

Astrid’s real face cycled through six different shades of red in under three seconds.

She violently slapped her own cheeks with both hands to physically reset her brain.

THWACK.
