Chapter 28 Violet Loves to Act
Chapter 28 Violet Loves to Act
It took Violet a while to accept reality.
"I will report what you said to the organization, but it may take some time, since some things can only be transferred from China."
Lynn nodded.
There's nothing more to say.
"Then, Miss Violet, I won't disturb you any longer."
Lynn turned to leave.
Violet called out to him.
"Wait, let me change my clothes. I'll take you somewhere tonight."
Lynn was puzzled, but he still waited outside the door.
Ten minutes or so passed.
Violet finally came out.
She was still dressed in an exquisite outfit.
Lynn followed behind Violet, muttering helplessly, "Do you always dress like this? Are we going somewhere crowded?"
Violet ignored Lynn's complaints and rolled her eyes at him.
"Maintaining elegance is my philosophy of life, whether or not there are people around."
"..."
It was already late at night.
The White Horse Tavern was still bustling with activity.
The rest of the people were either gathered in the casino or playing games on the second floor.
There were far fewer people in the lobby.
Lynn followed behind Violet.
Meanwhile, Uncle Grand and his lover also walked out of the casino.
The woman seemed to be complaining about Grand.
"I told you, just come to the tavern to drink and watch the show, and don't gamble. Now look what's happened, you've lost 60 silver nis, enough to buy me a necklace."
Grande's face was gloomy; he was in a bad mood because he had lost money.
He roared, "Necklace, necklace! How much jewelry have I bought for you! You must have ruined my luck tonight, otherwise how could I have lost five games in a row!"
Seeing that Grand was really angry, the young woman quickly nestled in his arms, apologized in a low voice, and said some mushy things.
Grand was in a bad mood, so he simply looked into the distance and ignored her.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
Isn't that Miss Violet who was performing on stage just now?
The person following behind her... was his nephew, Lynn?
How did he get in?
Grand was shocked for a moment, but then he understood the cause and effect.
My nephew must be working as a male servant at the White Horse Tavern, given his good looks.
Miss Violet must be out on business and needs his help as her servant.
Grand felt a pang of regret, but at the same time, a surge of emotion welled up within him.
A beauty of Violet's caliber would be the object of countless men's desires.
Perhaps he could get to know Violet through Lynn.
Although the chances of getting close to her are very low, it's still quite worthwhile to get to know such a socialite.
Thinking of this, Grand quickly took out a check from his pocket and stuffed it into his lover's arms.
"Alright, alright, go to the casino and gamble a few rounds. If you win, I'll buy you a necklace. I'm going out for some fresh air; I'll be right back."
Upon hearing this, the woman's expression changed instantly. She kissed his old face and happily turned back to the casino.
Grand straightened his collar, put on a smile, and strode over.
"Lynn, isn't this Lynn? What are you doing here?"
Violet stopped and asked, "You know him?"
Lynn shook her head: "We're not familiar with him, just ignore him."
Lynn had no intention of paying any attention to her second uncle, Grand, but he stuck to her like a leech.
Upon reaching him, Grand feigned surprise and clasped his hands in astonishment.
"Oh my, isn't this Miss Violet? I'm here too! I'm Lynn's second uncle, Grand Wilson. It's an honor to meet you. Your performance tonight was absolutely fantastic."
Grand extended his hand, wanting to give a kiss on the hand.
Violet, however, remained unmoved.
She glanced at Lynn's gloomy expression and instantly understood the situation.
Violet curled the corners of her lips, glanced at Lynn, and asked:
"Lynn, do you know him?"
Lynn was somewhat helpless.
Why does this woman always cause trouble?
Why not just deal with it directly and leave? What kind of act are you putting on now?
"I don't know him."
Lynn said calmly.
Violet rested her chin on her hand, looked at Grand, and said with difficulty, "Excuse me, sir, you seem to have mistaken me for someone else, but I am still very grateful that you could participate in my performance. However, I have some personal matters to attend to now and cannot continue our pleasantries."
Grand got anxious and turned to wink wildly at Lynn.
"Lynn, didn't we just meet? I know you're ashamed of your status as a male servant, but you can't say you don't recognize Uncle!"
Grand casually waved the gemstone ring on his hand in front of his face.
"If you're not happy with your job here, you can come to my estate to tend the lawn, how about that?"
Lynn lost patience with the act and turned to leave the tavern, but Violet grabbed his hand.
She tilted her head and smiled, "A male servant? Sir, you must have mistaken me for someone else. Lynn is my friend, not a male servant."
"Your friend?"
Grand was somewhat bewildered.
How could his good-for-nothing nephew have such an important friend?
Grand chuckled awkwardly, "Lynn, you lied to Miss Violet, didn't you? Miss Violet, I'm so sorry, I apologize on behalf of my nephew. If it's alright, I'd like to treat you to a meal as an apology, the time is up to you. Although I'm very busy, with Miss Violet here, I can easily cancel anything!"
Violet pretended to be confused.
"Lying? Lynn is Baron Nareel's extraordinary knight. If you continue to pester me, I don't think my friend will let this go."
Grand stood there, stunned.
"Him? A superhuman?"
Violet was very pleased with Grand's reaction and covered her mouth to suppress her laughter.
Lynn rolled her eyes at her speechlessly.
This guy has a really weird sense of humor.
"Yes, it happened a few days ago. What do you want from me?"
Lynn looked at Grand with disgust and impatience.
Upon learning the truth, Grand was as stiff as a puppet.
His face alternated between blue and red.
After a few seconds, Grand finally spoke, somewhat stammering:
"I...I don't know, Lynn, about the past..."
Lynn frowned and interrupted, "As long as you don't bother me again, I won't pursue the matter. Alright, is there anything else?"
Grand was pale, and he took out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
No, no.
Lynn glared at Violet, who was smirking.
Suddenly, Lynn remembered something.
He turned around and called out to Grand, who was about to make his escape.
"Wait, let me ask you, you didn't sell those books in the old house, did you?"
Grand shook his head immediately.
"I didn't sell them! I figured those things might appreciate in value later, so I didn't sell a single one!"
Lynn gave Grand an address.
"Send over one hundred books tomorrow, not a single one missing, understand?"
Grand nodded hastily, a forced smile plastered on his face.
"Don't worry, I'll have Charlie bring it over tomorrow. He always says he wants to see you!"
