Chapter 52 A Contingency Plan
Chapter 52 A Contingency Plan
early morning.
Nareel city center.
The guards stopped the carriage outside the courtyard.
He dismounted and, as usual, went to knock on the door.
dong dong dong~
Three knocks on the door.
The door remained closed for a long time.
It was eerily quiet inside.
The guard felt uneasy and knocked on the door again urgently.
"My lord, it's time to set off."
Still, no one answered.
The guard walked to the window, wanting to see what was going on, but the curtains completely blocked out the situation inside the room.
He sensed something was wrong and hurriedly went back to bang on the door.
"Sir, please open the door quickly!"
The room remained quiet.
"My lord, I have been very rude!"
The guard kicked the door open.
Sunlight streamed into the dimly lit room.
There was no one in the living room.
After searching the storeroom, the guards finally found the servants, who were tied up like dumplings.
"broken!"
The guard turned pale and hurriedly ran outside.
......
"What did you say?!"
Brown Narell's eyes widened, and he stood up abruptly from his seat.
The guard was so frightened that he immediately knelt on the ground.
His voice trembled.
"My lord, my lord, spare me! This...this has nothing to do with me!"
The guards on the ground pleaded desperately.
Brown himself stood frozen in place, as if he couldn't hear anything.
Brown stared blankly ahead.
But a few seconds later, he suddenly laughed again.
"Lynn, you're really something, managing to get the Restoration Society to value you so much. Looks like Sinus's group isn't all idiots after all..."
Brown took a deep breath to calm himself down.
He waved his hand, and the kneeling guards were dragged away, groaning in pain.
A bunch of useless things...
They deserved to die.
Brown irritably beckoned to the guard beside him.
"Go, go and summon that newly appointed high priest."
"Yes."
The guard nodded and was about to leave.
Brown called him back just in time.
"Wait, you don't need to go. I'll go see him myself."
"Go and do two things for me right now."
First, immediately summon all my extraordinary individuals back to the city and have them stationed outside. Tell them I want to reward them with potions. Remember, no one is allowed to wear armor!
Second, immediately recall an army to arrest the people outside the city. Remember, arrest the entire village; do not let a single person escape, not even a child!
"Let's go now!"
"yes!"
The guard hurriedly ran out.
Brown also hurriedly left the castle and boarded the carriage leading to the temple.
Inside the carriage, Brown let out a long sigh of relief.
He wasn't surprised that Lynn would run away on his own sooner or later, but he didn't expect the Restoration Society to act so quickly.
It seems we need to use our prepared backup plan immediately.
However, the current situation is somewhat beyond his original expectations.
But there's no time to worry about that now.
The most urgent task is to get Lynn back.
Brown was considering the next steps.
Meanwhile, the carriage had unknowingly arrived at the temple gate.
Brown stepped down from the carriage and entered the temple amidst the bowing of the priests.
"Sir, what's going on?"
The clerk in the hall greeted him with some surprise and doubt.
Barons rarely come to the temple; when something happens, they summon their men.
This sudden visit is probably not a good thing.
Brown smiled.
"I have something to discuss with your High Priest. Please take me to see him."
The clerk immediately led the way, but still had some doubts in his heart.
They walked to the outside of the High Priest's office.
Brown dismissed the clerk and went inside himself.
Inside the room, Ezra was working on documents with his head down.
He heard someone come in, but without even looking up, he tapped the table irritably.
"How many times have I told you! Knock before you come in! Get out! Come in again!"
Brown smiled.
"High Priest, given our relationship, I don't think I need to re-enter the room, do I?"
Upon hearing this, Ezra froze in mid-air with his pen in hand.
He looked up and was so startled that he stood up abruptly.
Ezra's face gradually turned pale.
"Men, men, men... Your Excellency, I didn't know it was you. What brings you here...?"
Brown went over, set out a stool, and helped him to a chair.
He sighed.
"High Priest, there's no need to panic. You must be terrified by Mr. Cullen's passing. It's my fault. I shouldn't have acted so rashly and killed all those Restorationists."
Ezra swallowed hard and shook his head.
"No, it's not your fault, you killed...very well."
Brown sighed, feigning sorrow.
"You don't need to make excuses for me. Mr. Cullen's death was indeed partly my fault. Those shameless guys from the Restoration Society actually took revenge on the old man..."
Ezra was somewhat confused by Brown's words.
What is this guy... talking about?
Didn't you kill that person?
What exactly is he up to right now?
Ezra could only remain silent, waiting for Brown to reveal his true purpose.
Sure enough, Brown changed the subject in his next sentence.
"However, I think the Restoration Society killed Mr. Cullen not entirely out of revenge, but because of... that girl named Tina."
Ezra became somewhat nervous upon hearing this.
"What do you mean?"
Brown wiped away non-existent tears.
"Let me be frank with you, one of my men is a spy from the Restoration Society. He tricked me into believing that a girl named Tina had feelings for me. You know, she's a very beautiful girl. And since I have very few children, I naturally fell for her too, which is why I rejected Mr. Cullen's offer that day."
But who would have thought that was just a lie to lower my guard! They escaped outside the city last night and their whereabouts are unknown. That's why I'm here to see you!
"What!?"
Upon hearing the news of Tina's escape, Ezra felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
He has already notified his superiors to come and take the person back, but now that the target has disappeared, what can he do?
His superiors will definitely rip his head off!
"You! How could you let her go?!"
Ezra was so anxious that he forgot the man in front of him was a baron, and cried out in anguish.
Brown narrowed his eyes.
"Sir, please don't speak nonsense. They ran away on their own. The reason I'm here now is to find that girl again and offer her to the church to atone for my mistake."
Ezra grasped at a straw.
"Have you already sent people to arrest her?"
Brown shook his head.
"I don't even know which direction she ran in, so I've come here to beg you to bring her back."
"Do you remember when I asked Mr. Kuren to let Tina stay at the temple for two days? I had someone preserve her hair, saliva, blood, and soul information, so the rest is up to you."
Ezra was taken aback, but immediately understood what Brown meant.
However, his expression showed some hesitation.
"I understand, you want to use that divine spell, but what about the sacrifice..."
Brown smiled.
"You don't need to worry about the offerings; I've already prepared plenty for you."
Ezra nodded with difficulty.
"Alright, that's all we can do for now. But we'll have to wait a few more days. His Holiness the bishop is on his way here, and I'm not yet capable of performing the divine ritual myself."
Brown laughed when he heard this.
"I just told you about the divine magic, and it just so happens that the bishop is on his way here. It seems that you are truly favored by God."
Ezra gave a guilty smile.
"Coincidence, it's all just a coincidence. It seems that God is indeed protecting us!"
Brown remained noncommittal, simply smiling as he looked at Ezra.
Ezra's heart leaped into his throat.
"Your Excellency, I..."
Brown shook his head.
"High Priest, I have nothing more to say. When the Bishop arrives, I hope you will not forget to mention my unwavering loyalty and dedication to the Church. I do not need any reward for this matter; I only wish that the Church would know of my efforts."
Ezra breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's for sure, don't worry!"
Brown nodded and prepared to leave.
Ezra personally escorted him to the outside of the temple.
Step onto the carriage.
Brown let out a long sigh.
He felt helpless about the current situation.
"Lynn, you could have served my family for the rest of your life without any worries."
But now, it's all out of my control.
For the rest of your life, let you hate me while I restore my family's glory...
