Chapter 490 - 264: Dungeon Raid (Part 2)
This situation was already within his expectations, and previously he did not want to reveal it, for this reason.
Upon hearing Raine’s explanation, even Meredith, usually known for her calm and indifferent demeanor, showed an expression of "Are you kidding a child?" on her cold and beautiful face, her large eyes rolling slightly upward as she glanced at Raine.
This was the first time Raine appreciated the unique charm and allure of femininity that Meredith displayed.
With a smile, Raine immediately said, "By the way, now that Kabia is still drinking in the tavern, shouldn’t we immediately infiltrate using his identity?"
Raine’s words completely diverted Meredith’s attention from continuing her inquiry. She pondered briefly, then nodded and said, "Now is indeed a good time."
"But you’ll need to change your outfit again."
More than ten minutes later.
Raine emerged renewed from a leather armor shop, though his leather armor was slightly different from Kabia’s, it was roughly similar.
The most important thing was, the Warhammer was hidden beneath his cloak, while the longsword exposed at his waist was identical to Kabia’s.
Soon, the two of them were heading toward the core area of Belendaan.
Throughout the journey, Meredith softly instructed Raine on some conversational details that needed attention.
As the two continued to move forward, soon Raine’s eyes caught sight of the exquisitely constructed houses made of stalagmites he had seen when he first entered the mountain.
This was also the noble district of the Drow Elves.
Compared to the previous civilian district, this place was noticeably cleaner and tidier, and even the air was much better, with the former stench completely gone, replaced by a faint floral fragrance.
The Drow Elves passing by, regardless of gender, were well-equipped, with a concentrated aura.
Upon seeing Raine and Meredith, they merely glanced with curiosity, without a long gaze.
"Isn’t it completely different from the civilian district?" Meredith glanced at Raine and said.
"Indeed, but this is quite normal; many Human Kingdoms are like this too." Raine nodded and said.
As he spoke, an imposing building came into Raine’s sight.
This was an architectural complex constructed from dozens of giant stalagmites, surrounded by a circle of dark gray, glossy stone walls.
At the entrance, four elite Drow Elf guards, holding crossbows, stood watch.
At this moment, Raine once again cast a Transformation Spell, changing his appearance to resemble Kabia, and he walked forward with Meredith right behind him.
"Lord Kabia, not going to the Spider Queen Bar for a drink today?" Apparently, the guards were somewhat surprised by Kabia’s unexpected return.
"I forgot something, need to fetch it." Raine imitated Kabia’s voice and said.
"Alright, Lord Kabia, but who is this?"
"This is Lady Meredith of the Hernet Family."
"But Lord Kabia, according to the rules, if she’s a visitor, we need to report it, and only with permission from above can we let her in." The guard said with a troubled expression.
"Record my name, and we’ll be out shortly."
"This... okay!"
The guard hesitated for a moment but, upon noticing ’Kabia’ staring at him intensely, seemed to feel some indescribable pressure. After a quick thought, he nodded somewhat reluctantly.
With the guard’s clearance, Raine led Meredith smoothly into the front courtyard.
It was then that Meredith whispered behind Raine, "Go straight, turn right, at the third corridor, make a left turn—there you’ll find the family prison."
Raine nodded.
At that moment, voices came from a corridor ahead.
Immediately afterward, a man and a woman appeared before Raine and Meredith.
"Damn it, hide." Upon seeing them, Meredith quickly pulled Raine into a nearby room.
"It’s Griffi, whose rank is higher than Kabia’s. If you run into her, she might assign you other tasks."
Upon hearing Meredith’s whispered explanation in his ear, Raine slightly nodded.
This matriarchal clan aspect was quite troublesome.
"Can’t you use an Invisibility Spell to get in?"
"No, the place is filled with large detection arrays, and any special magic fluctuation will instantly trigger an alarm."
...
Once the two Drow Elves walked away—
Finally, the two made their way to the entrance of the underground dungeon without incident.
A wide staircase that could accommodate four people walking side by side spiraled downward.
After nodding toward Meredith, Raine proceeded ahead.
Since it’s a prison, it was obviously inappropriate to bring Meredith along, even if Kabia was in charge. Bringing a stranger into the prison was entirely unjustifiable.
Descending the spiral staircase and turning a corner, two male Drow Elf warriors wielding ring blades appeared before Raine.
"Lord Kabia?"
"Yes, I came back to retrieve something."
"Oh, alright."
As he spoke, the Drow Elf warrior immediately turned to unlock the iron gate.
It was at this moment—
’Snap! Snap!’
With two crisp sounds, the two elite Drow fell limply, while Raine quickly caught each of them, laying their unconscious bodies on nearby seats.
It appeared as if the two guards had just dozed off during their watch.
Seconds later, Meredith stealthily descended the stairs. After glancing around, she said, "My father is imprisoned on the second basement level. We need to continue downward."
"Moreover, we should hurry, as the patrol frequency in the dungeon area is high, typically every fifteen minutes."
"Alright."
Passing through the steel gate, Raine immediately proceeded down the spiral staircase.
"Hmm? Kabia, what brings you to the second detention block?" At this point, the two Drow guards responsible for the lower prison were stunned to see the transformed Kabia.
"Just came to check on you guys." Raine replied with a warm and friendly smile.
Meredith had previously informed him that Kabia was the captain of the first detention block, whereas the second block wasn’t under his jurisdiction.
Moreover, as the second block housed higher-profile prisoners, its guards were more formidable.
The Drow guards before him, judging from their aura, were approximately Level 6 Classes, not much different from Kabia’s Level 7.
However, Kabia was the captain of the first block, while these two were merely ordinary guards of the second block.
Thus, it wasn’t hard to see the stringent security of the second block.
"Checking on us?" The two Drow exchanged glances, somewhat bewildered for a moment.
Though familiar with Kabia, their relationship was only ordinary.
"Snap!"
Suddenly, both felt a tightness around their necks, shortly followed by a vise-like choking sensation.
"Thunk!"
Before any shout could escape their lips, they found themselves rapidly closing in, and in the next instant, their heads collided.
From Meredith’s angle on the stairs, Raine appeared to hoist them like chicks and knock their heads together, making them instantly faint.
Since Meredith only knew her father was held on the second basement level, the exact cell would need to be searched on-site.
"You go left, I’ll go right."
Thus, the two quickly began searching, one to the left, the other to the right.
"Damn Drow scum!" In the first cell Raine checked on the left, a stout Gray Dwarf shackled with heavy chains glared angrily at Raine through the small iron-barred window.
Ignoring the curses and glares, Raine quickly moved on to check the next cell.
"Wait!"
After checking four cells in succession, Meredith urgently called Raine.
Hmm?
Raine immediately turned to look.
Meredith was staring at an empty cell.
"This should be the one," she said.
"The small wooden carving on the headboard is crafted by my father."
Glancing at the headboard, Raine saw a brown wooden carving beside the pillow, shaped like Meredith.
"Seems you’re not the guards, no wonder I’ve never seen you before."
"Let me out, and I’ll tell you where your father is."
A nearby imprisoned Drow woman swiftly stood up and said in a low voice, her slightly reddish eyes filled with excitement and a sense of finding a lifeline.
