Chapter 91 Something's happened!

Chapter 91 Something's happened!

The door was pulled open a crack from the inside, and Ella's furry head peeked out from the gap.

Her big eyes were full of guilt, her dog ears were stuck to her head, and there was a bit of suspicious sauce on the corner of her mouth.

"Arthur—you're here—" Ella stammered as she greeted him, her tail tucked tightly between her legs, too afraid to look Arthur in the eye.

Arthur stepped into the room, closed the door behind him, and locked it.

She quickly scanned the room and froze.

The bedding on the two single beds was torn into a mess, and the pillows were on the floor, stuffed with several huge roasted meat bones that were still dripping with grease.

Yinye was standing on a wooden chair in the center of the room.

She held up a mop handle that she had somehow taken apart, striking a somewhat arrogant pose.

"What are you doing?" Arthur's worry turned into helplessness. "Why aren't you sleeping in the middle of the night? Are you doing demolition work?"

"We are not carrying out any demolitions!"

Silverleaf jumped off the chair, her pointed ears perking up excitedly: "Arthur! You'll never guess who we just saw in the tavern downstairs!"

"Who?" Arthur felt a bad feeling rising in his heart when he saw their appearance.

The fact that these two carefree guys are this excited in the middle of the night means they're definitely not ordinary people.

"A woman!"

Ella gestured dramatically in the air with both hands: "A woman with red hair, incredibly tall! Extremely long legs! And carrying a dark, grimy stick on her back!"

Arthur's heart stirred slightly; why did this description sound so familiar?

The empire's records of that man mostly describe him as having fiery red hair, a tall and muscular physique, and that iconic black spear!

"Wait a moment."

Arthur's expression turned serious. She walked to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down. "Tell me everything in detail, from beginning to end. What does she look like? What did she do? What did she say?"

"I'll do it! I'll show you!" Yinye's eyes lit up, and she enthusiastically picked up the mop handle and climbed back onto the wooden chair.

"Ella, cooperate with me!" she commanded, patting her flat chest.

"Okay!" Ella obediently ran to the other side of the table, pretending to be wiping it.

Arthur sighed; she had actually figured out what Ella was imitating.

Tavern owner.

Yinye's eyes were half-closed, with the corners slightly upturned, as if she was trying to put on an air of dominance.

She straightened her chest and casually draped the mop handle behind her back, as if she were stepping over the tavern's dilapidated threshold.

"It was very windy outside, and the moment she walked in, the whole place fell silent!" Yinye explained in a low voice as she moved around. "There were several mercenaries cursing in the tavern, but as soon as she appeared, they didn't dare utter a sound!"

Silver Leaf walked up to Ella and slammed the mop handle on the ground!

"Bang!"

Silver Leaf glanced sideways at Ella and deliberately lowered his voice: "Two ounces of meat, one ounce of wine."

She held up two fingers: "Liquor, not diluted with water."

Arthur sat in his chair, staring blankly at Silverleaf's performance.

"That's exactly what she said! And her voice was super cool!" Yinye jumped off the chair, grabbed the teacup on the table, and gulped down a huge mouthful of water. "The boss was so scared his legs went weak, and he scrambled to the kitchen to cut meat!"

"And then?" Arthur asked, somewhat exasperated. "What else did she do?"

"Then she started eating the meat!" Ella excitedly chimed in, gesturing dramatically with her hands to show the size of the piece of meat. "Such a huge roasted animal leg! She grabbed it with her hands, and in one bite, half the meat was gone from the bone! She ate faster than Ella! She chewed three times—no, it seems like she only chewed twice—and then swallowed it!"

"The point isn't how she ate the meat!" Silverleaf poked Ella's butt with a mop handle, exasperated. "The point is her attitude! When she sat there eating, everyone in the tavern was looking down at their toes, not daring to breathe!"

Arthur sighed inwardly, knowing that neither of them were reliable talkers and they would definitely exaggerate everything.

"When did she leave?" Arthur didn't expect to learn anything from them anymore, and asked casually, "Did she leave any message?"

"She ate very quickly, and stood up right after finishing her drink."

Silverleaf tossed aside the mop handle and walked to the door: "She paused as she reached the tavern entrance. Then, she turned around—"

.

""

Silverleaf turned around and stared into Arthur's eyes: "She looked directly at Ella and me, who were sitting in the corner!"

"She saw you?" Arthur's heart skipped a beat.

"Yes." Ella tilted her head. "She looked at us, and then—and then she smiled."

"You laughed?" Arthur was stunned.

"Yes." Silverleaf nodded heavily. "She looked at Ella and me, and the corners of her mouth curled up slightly. Then she pushed open the door and disappeared."

Arthur sat in the chair, feeling like he was about to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information.

A red-haired woman, exactly as described in the records, appeared in this remote imperial post station late at night.

She even gave Chu Sheng's two companions a meaningful smile as she left.

"Veronica————"

Arthur murmured the name. If that woman really was "Hero" Veronica, then things would be completely out of control!

Ambermind said she had seen Veronica in the Sacred Tree Forest three years ago, which was enough to shock Arthur.

And now, she was standing right in front of them, alive and well!

Has the rule of succession for the heroes been broken?

Furthermore, why is Veronica here? Was she just passing by? Or did she come specifically to find them?

If she came looking for Chu Sheng, then what is her relationship with the person who set the trap at the bottom of the lake?

"Arthur, what's wrong? You look so pale?" Yinye looked at Arthur's unpredictable expression and leaned over with some concern, waving her hand in front of his eyes.

"Could that red-haired woman be a top assassin?" Ella nervously clutched her dog's head. "She just smiled; did she go get a weapon specifically for killing dogs? Ella's flesh doesn't taste good!"

Arthur raised his head, his gaze fixed intently on Silverleaf and Ella: "If I'm not mistaken, the woman you just saw—is very likely the previous generation's [Hero]."

"Veronica, the strongest modern woman who has died according to the official records of the Empire."

Yinye was so startled that she took a step back: "I thought it was just a bit like her, but it really is her?! Could she have turned into the highest-level undead creature?"

"I was just saying maybe." Arthur rubbed his temples. "It's too much of a coincidence, really too much of a coincidence. Pack your things, and we'll leave as soon as Chu Sheng and the others get back."

"Buzz"

Just then, a high-frequency vibration suddenly came from the distant night sky.

The sound was inaudible to ordinary people, but Arthur's senses were far beyond those of ordinary people, and the limp tuft of hair on his head instantly straightened.

That's the sound of violence tearing through the air!

The sound came from the lake she had just left!

Arthur's expression changed drastically, and he abruptly turned to look out the window.
