Chapter 330: Consuming the Corrupted Essences
Chapter 330: Consuming the Corrupted Essences
[Goblin of Oblivion Essence x13 (Corrupted): Consuming this will increase Strength by 150.]
[Goblin of Oblivion Club x13 (Rare)]
[Ogre of Oblivion Essence x10 (Corrupted): Consuming will increase Strength by 200 and Constitution by 100.]
[Orc of Oblivion Essence (Corrupted): Increase Strength by 3,000 and Constitution by 1,500.]
[Corrupted Ogre Blade (Ancient)]
[Sub-Talent Scroll: Supreme Strength Enhancement (S-Level)]
"These monsters don’t really give any interesting items at all," Leon scratched his chin thoughtfully, "In fact, they seem to mainly be useful for one specific purpose... attribute farming."
Leon was actually very pleasantly surprised to find a potential farming spot where monsters gave such a good amount of attributes per essence.
But one couldn’t forget the "Corrupted" nature of these essences that the system kept highlighting.
Ding!
["Celestial Hand" has activated on several monsters.]
"I think it’s better to test out the essences on myself before deciding what to do with the rest of them," Leon mumbled as he gazed at his skill’s notification.
And so, Leon pulled out a single [Goblin of Oblivion Essence] from his storage space, held it up to his mouth, and consumed it in one go.
Nom!
But as soon as he swallowed the corrupted essence, he suddenly felt a terrifyingly powerful sensation well up deep inside his chest, something dark and wrong spreading through his veins like poison.
Ding!
[You have consumed an essence corrupted by "Oblivion", you shall be corrupted as a result.]
"As expected," Leon nodded, "A normal player can’t consume those things."
Purple cracks began to appear all over Leon’s body as a direct result of consuming the corrupted essence.
They spread across his skin like fractured glass, and his very soul felt like it was splitting apart from the inside out as the corruption tried to take hold of him.
"What is happening to you?" Emilia quickly approached with concern in her voice, reaching out to touch him.
She touched Leon’s shoulder gently, but a sudden shot of excruciating pain hit her directly through the contact, making her shriek and jump backward as the dark purple corruption surrounded Leon like a shroud of malevolent energy.
After a few seconds passed, even though the situation had seemed like it was about to get much worse for him, all of it suddenly calmed down and the purple cracks stopped spreading.
Unaffected!
Leon’s title passive activated at that exact moment, surging through his body and removing every single ounce of corruption from his system as if it had never been there in the first place.
Ding!
[Your title purges the corruption of "Oblivion", for no one, not even a god, can affect a Celestial’s soul.]
"Knew it," Leon grinned with a faint glimpse of satisfaction in his eyes, "That stuff won’t work on me."
Leon wasn’t dumb enough to do something as stupid as consuming such a dangerous essence without at least being half sure that it would be fine in the end.
He always (sometimes) thought things through before taking risks.
He had believed that [Unaffected] would stop the corruption from getting to him based on how the title had worked in the past, but he simply needed to test it out to confirm his theory before consuming all the other essences.
’This means [Unaffected] has way more uses than I originally expected, since I can’t be corrupted by anything, does it also mean I can’t be brainwashed, hypnotised, or even become a servant of the gods by them forcing me to follow their will?’
Regardless of what the answer to those questions ended up being, Leon felt himself get noticeably stronger from just that single essence consumption.
Ding!
[+150 Strength.]
And that was only from one of the weakest essences he had collected, which meant the stronger ones would give him even more attributes.
Immediately afterward, Leon finally decided to use [Celestial Hand] to get all the essences he could from the remaining monsters, since the skill had been sitting there ready to activate.
The skill had also activated on the [Orc of Oblivion] boss, and Leon actually decided to get the essence instead of the S-Level sub talent from it.
’All of us have much better sub talents than that anyway,’ he thought dismissively, ’So this sub-talent is completely useless to me.’
He summoned all of the essences onto the ground in front of him afterward, a total of thirty nine of them from all the different monsters he had killed in the realm.
As she saw this impressive pile of glowing essences, Emilia slowly approached to look at them all with curiosity in her eyes.
"I bet Celeste would really benefit from consuming these things," Emilia spoke thoughtfully.
"I knew I would be mostly fine because of my title, but who knows what would happen to someone else like her."
Leon thought about the possibility of Celeste using her embers to scorch the corruption away before it could get to her soul, but if she couldn’t do that reliably, then it wouldn’t be good at all for her health.
So instead of saving any of them for his companion, Leon decided to consume all of the corrupted essences himself right then and there.
Nom! Nom! Nom!
[+12,200 Strength, +4,300 Constitution.]
He felt the raw power course through his veins like liquid fire as he gained a decent chunk of attribute points all at once from the pile of essences.
And with his x3 combat power multiplier, those attribute gains became even more powerful in terms of actual fighting strength.
He stored the rest of the leftover items that weren’t essences in his storage space for later use or sale, then turned toward the glowing exit portal and stepped toward it while carrying the still unconscious Celeste in his arms.
Fwoosh!
[You have left the "Forest of Oblivion" realm.]
Leon, followed closely by Emilia, left the portal behind them, and then they proceeded to exit the awakener association building entirely as they reached the main square outside.
The duo sat down on a nearby bench to rest for a moment while Leon still carried Celeste, letting her sleep off the exhaustion from using her darkness ember for the first time.
"Let me just place all of my items up for sale on the trading house," Leon smiled at the elf girl, "That way I will have more than enough money for anything interesting we find in the [Awakener District]."
"Alright, take your time," Emilia beamed as she observed their surroundings.
