Chapter 305 The Imprisoned Mermaid (24)
Chapter 305 The Imprisoned Mermaid (24)
Odin was sent flying to find water and never returned.
Reg had a rough guess in his mind that there should be no island nearby.
Seeing that the water supply was about to run out, even Reg temporarily put aside his romantic thoughts with Molly.
Everyone began to save water, eating dry food for all three meals, and stopped taking baths, saving the remaining water for emergencies.
Reg watched the sky every day to see if it was going to rain.
But the sky was clear for several days in a row, without any thick clouds.
Perhaps because he hadn't cleaned himself for several days, Reg didn't take Molly to bed with him at night.
At this moment, Reg was somewhat glad that Molly was a mermaid. She had no need to drink water and did not need fresh water to clean her body like humans.
Despite this, Reg would prepare a glass of water for Molly every day.
Molly could sense their anxiety over lack of water. Due to the lack of fresh water, the sailors' daily training time was cut in half.
Odin never came back, and Reg's mood became worse and worse.
Even at night, lookouts had to be sent out to observe by moonlight whether there were any islands nearby.
That night, Molly was sleeping in the water tank when she heard a commotion on the deck.
Everyone was standing on the side deck holding torches, looking at the silhouette of a small bulge in the distance.
"Sir! There's a small island over there!"
Reg took out a telescope, but the ocean was too dark at night, and he couldn't see the situation on the island clearly with only the moonlight.
If there was fresh water on the island, Odin wouldn't have been able to stay out for so long.
But the situation was special now, so Reg had to ask the helmsman to change direction and go to the island to take a look.
As they got closer to the island, Reg felt something was wrong.
The island looks bare in appearance, as if there is very little vegetation on the island.
Islands with little vegetation are likely to have no fresh water resources.
Reg said to Mark, "Take two people and go check it out. If there's no water, return."
Mark nodded, and named two experienced sailors to take with them, holding torches and rowing the boat to the island.
Molly quietly surfaced, supported herself on the edge of the water tank with her hands and was about to turn over, but suddenly she saw a sailor sticking his head out of the window.
Molly saw clearly that it was the first unfamiliar face.
The bedroom was dark, and the man was holding a torch in his hand, extending it inside to observe.
Molly immediately retreated back into the water.
She saw that the man seemed to have something stuffed in his ears. Could it be cotton?
Molly didn't expect that Reg would still have someone watching her at this time, and even had someone plug something in her ears to prevent her from being distracted by her singing.
The crew outside the window saw that the mermaid was still in the tank, with her beautiful blue tail entangled with her long golden hair.
When fishing for mermaids some time ago, no one could see the mermaid's face clearly, so the crew couldn't help but take a few more glances.
But with Pike as a criminal record and the captain's intimidation behind, the crew didn't dare to look any further. After making sure the mermaid was in the tank, they withdrew their heads.
...
Reg stood on the deck waiting for the reconnaissance team to return, and from time to time he turned his head to look at the second deck. Only when he saw that the crew member he sent to guard Molly was still standing there did he look away with relief.
Mark returned with the other two people just before dawn.
"Sir, there is not even a tree on that island! It's all bare earth slopes! There is no water source." Mark said breathlessly after getting on the boat.
Reg was not surprised and had to ask the helmsman to set off again.
After a wasted trip and tossing around for the entire second half of the night, the sailors on duty were a little exhausted. After eating some dry food, they went back to the cabin to catch up on their sleep.
Mark also went to rest, so Reg returned to the bedroom. Seeing that Molly was still there, he stood on the second-floor deck to maintain his machete and gun.
Molly heard the noise, opened her eyes and surfaced.
The lack of fresh water meant that Reg had not trimmed his beard for a long time, and he looked much rougher.
Reg turned around and saw Molly staring at him.
Neither of them spoke. Reg looked at her for a moment and then lowered his head to wipe the hilt of the knife.
In the sunlight, the silver coin pendant on Reg's neck always reflects a dazzling flash of light.
Molly looked away after a few seconds.
...
Three more days passed.
Seeing that the buckets storing fresh water were almost empty and the sky still showed no signs of rain, the sailors began to get anxious.
Mark comforted them, saying that they might find an island soon.
Unexpectedly, what Mark said was very effective. Someone soon saw a small island with lush branches and leaves not far away.
"Oh my God! Look!"
"Holy Mary! That's an island! Am I seeing right?"
"Go and report to the captain!"
"It's an island! It's an island! Great! We're saved!"
"There must be water up there! Quick! Let's go get it!"
"Damn it! I'm so tired of being so smelly and dirty! I want to take a shower!"
Mark also saw the island and shouted happily.
Reg heard the shouting, walked out of the bedroom from the long table, stood at the railing and observed with a telescope.
"Have the helmsman turn around!"
At Reg's command, the ship turned around and chased in the direction of the island.
Finally finding the island, the crew's spirits were obviously much higher. They took out the water-collecting tools from the cargo hold and piled them on the deck, ready to get off the boat to get water as soon as possible.
Mark also had the boat prepared, and everything was ready, just waiting to approach the island.
Everyone was very excited and waited from morning to noon, but it seemed that the distance between the boat and the island did not change.
"What's going on? Why haven't we reached the shallow water yet?"
Reg noticed something was wrong, frowned and took out a telescope to observe.
The lookout on the mast was also observing the island.
Mark also frowned and squinted his eyes at the island not far away.
The distance is obviously not far, why hasn’t it gotten any closer after walking for so long?
"Damn it! What a scourge!"
Everyone's mood soon became anxious again.
"What's going on?"
"The boat isn't moving? Should we go to the cockpit and manually row?"
"Go try it!"
The sailors rushed below deck, released their oars and rowed together faster.
"One! Two!"
"One! Two!"
"One! Two!"
On the deck, Mark heard the shouts of the people paddling, his eyes fixed on the island without blinking.
But the distance was still so long, and the ship seemed to be stuck in the same place and motionless.
Mark immediately walked to the edge of the deck, leaned on the coaming and looked at the sea.
The hull broke through the sea surface and slid, with the water flowing backwards.
The ship is clearly moving forward!
And the speed is not slow.
Mark raised his head and looked at the island again.
The distance hasn't changed at all!
It's as if the ship is moving forward and the island is moving backward.
What a hell!
Mark's face was filled with fear, and then he heard Reg's order: "Stop! Turn around!"
