Chapter 11 What is Sadism?
Chapter 11 What is Sadism?
It's time to fight back.
With his long beard, Rupert Courtney threw a series of punches, proving that offense is the best defense.
The arrogant and conceited Larry Berbick continued to throw punches, but the cruelty and smugness on his face gradually disappeared, and panic began to emerge.
He thought he could defeat his opponent once again and then smash his opponent's head with his hammer-like fist.
However, Rupert, who got back up, fought with increasing ferocity, repeatedly withstanding Berbick's hammer-like punches. He staggered, but did not fall down again.
Fist for fist, injury for injury; Rupert was now covered in wounds.
A gash appeared on his brow bone, and blood seeped through his eye and into his unkempt beard.
He had broken several ribs, breathing became unbearably painful, and the blood foam at the corner of his mouth indicated that his internal organs had also suffered severe damage.
Despite this, Rupert did not fall. He kept throwing punches, tirelessly throwing punches, as if he felt no pain.
Larry Berbick grew increasingly terrified as the fight progressed; he desperately wanted to know what kind of monster he was facing.
He's blind and his body is badly injured. Why is he still persisting? Shouldn't he give up? Shouldn't he kneel down and beg for mercy?
Larry Berbick's smug expression vanished completely, replaced by a hint of fear. He didn't want to continue the fight; even if he managed to defeat his opponent in the end, his fate wouldn't be any better.
"If you move aside and let me take the kid in the carriage, I might spare your life."
Larry Berbick's deep voice was still arrogant and domineering, but it was not as confident as before. Being able to negotiate was not the fighting style that "Sadism" should have.
Rupert Courtney remained silent, only throwing punches.
If it weren't for Mike Montagu, Rupert would have died in the underground boxing scene long ago. If he were to be killed by Berbick tonight, it would be like returning his life to Montagu, and he would die a worthy death.
"Are you deaf?! I told you to get out of my way!"
Larry Berbick roared and exchanged another punch with Rupert, a punch that left both of them injured.
Berbick swayed, stumbled, and nearly fell; Rupert staggered backward and almost got knocked down again.
The two men, having regained their footing, were only a few steps apart. Larry Berbick did not press forward again; he looked at Rupert, whose face was covered in blood, and at his crazed opponent.
Rupert raised his hand to wipe the blood from his face. His fist was already torn open, and you could even see the bone that should have been covered by muscle.
"If you want to take Master Montagu away, you'll have to step over my dead body first!"
With that, Rupert roared and charged forward, throwing a straight punch at Larry Berbick's face.
"I'll kill you! Then I'll kill you!"
Larry Berbick roared back, and the two began exchanging punches again.
As Rupert threw a hook punch, Berbick dodged the attack by diving down and simultaneously landed a hook punch on Rupert's jaw.
This time, Rupert Courtney didn't fall flat on his face like before. He took a heavy punch and was able to counterattack, throwing another powerful hook.
Larry Berbick dodged and threw a punch, aiming for Rupert's temple with a hook, but the sure-fire punch missed!
Rupert, who was originally neither dodging nor avoiding and just exchanging punches, actually anticipated Berbick's attack rhythm. He first stepped back to barely avoid his opponent's heavy punch, then darted forward and dodged to get close. Berbick's long arms were rendered useless, leaving him wide open!
Rupert's heavy punch landed squarely on Berbick's chin, knocking Berbick to the ground.
Although Larry Berbick quickly got back to his feet and swiftly moved out of Rupert's attack range, Berbick realized he had lost.
Feeling dizzy and unsteady, Berbick raised his hand to touch his neck. He had just heard a cracking sound from inside his body and suspected that there might be something wrong with his cervical spine.
Larry Berbick chickened out; if the fight continued, he would definitely be beaten to death!
Larry Berbick turned and ran, but the sound of his boots hitting the ground was so loud that it guided Rupert like a lighthouse in the dark.
Rupert gave chase, and Berbick threw punches wildly, trying to force Rupert back. However, dizzy and disoriented, Berbick lost his aim, and his punches missed their mark repeatedly, not even touching Rupert's clothes.
Faced with Larry Berbick's chaotic, haphazard punches, Rupert didn't retreat but advanced, first striking Berbick's waist and abdomen with his left fist, and then hitting Berbick's jaw with another punch.
An unbearable force lifted Larry Berbick's feet off the ground, causing him to crash heavily to the ground and remain motionless.
Rupert, having landed a successful blow, didn't waste any more words. He raised his fist and pounded at the fallen Larry Berbick, one punch, two punches, three punches...
The fierce battle between men is over; the remaining time is the victor's reward time. He can do whatever he wants to his opponent—this is the reward and glory that belongs only to the victor.
Meanwhile, near the carriage not far away, Anastasia's standoff was far from over.
"My friend, what are you waiting for?"
Anastasia said defiantly, "Your companion is about to be killed. You know, there's never a survivor among the tyrannical henchmen."
Severity originally refers to the violent and cruel behavior exhibited by people after drinking alcohol. Violence is the fighting style of Severity Transcendent beings, and cruelty is their way of treating enemies.
Driven by the power of mutation, the battles of sadistic transcendents become very simple: they only want to beat their enemies to death or be beaten to death by their enemies; in any case, one of them must die.
This means that unless there is external intervention, Larry Berbick cannot survive; Rupert Courtney will definitely kill him.
Larry Berbick's problem is solved; what remains is the vision-depriving transcendent lurking in the shadows.
Oh right, I almost forgot about the girl's body. There's also an Overlord who can control corpses, and I don't know where he's hiding. He might be waiting for an opportunity.
Anastasia decided to give him a chance and prepared to leave the carriage.
"Are you hidden well? I'm coming to catch you!"
As she spoke, Anastasia's figure vanished from the spot in a flash.
On a distant high-rise building, Wyatt Hall, holding a lever rifle, was horrified.
As a mysterious transcendent, Hall is very confident in his mutant power, and his combination with Larry Berbick is invincible.
Hall used his mutated power to blind his enemies, and Berbick used his hammer-like fists to kill all of them. Hall never imagined that their combination would lose so miserably.
What the hell is that Rupert Courtney, that sadist?
Even though he had been knocked to the ground by Berbick, he was still able to get up. Not only was he able to get up, but he was also able to turn the tide and defeat Berbick!
And that private investigator named Anastasia Angel, what the hell is she? Is she even human?
Depriving her of sight seemed to have no effect on her at all; she not only moved freely but could also deflect bullets with her sword time and time again. Are private detectives these days really that amazing?
Wyatt Hall, high up on the building, dared not be careless. He was not good at fighting, otherwise he would not have been hiding in the shadows and sniping. If a swordsman like Anastasia were to get close to him, he did not want to imagine how miserable his fate would be.
Fortunately, Hall also possesses the power of mutation. He can not only deprive others of their sight but also enhance his own. His superhuman vision is extremely effective in locating enemies.
Wyatt Hall looked around, trying to find the missing Anastasia.
The streets were deserted, not even a dog was in sight; there was no one between the buildings, only the glass reflecting the moonlight faintly.
Wyatt Hall looked around but found nothing. Anastasia seemed to have really disappeared; Hall couldn't find her anywhere.
What should I do?
Should they flee or hide where they are?
At this moment, Wyatt Hall had already abandoned his plan to attack tonight.
Their plan was not thorough enough, they lacked understanding of the security forces around Montagu, and they misjudged the situation.
They thought that as long as they stayed away from the riverside apartment and kept the person inside occupied, they could easily kidnap Montagu. They never expected that Angel and Courtney would be so difficult to deal with.
Just as Wyatt Hall was hesitating, the girl's body beside the carriage suddenly moved. Her movements were slow and silent.
The girl's body slowly stood up, silently approached the carriage, and slowly opened the door.
Mike, inside the carriage, was on high alert. His face was pale, and his clothes were soaked with cold sweat. He didn't know what the girl who had come back from the dead was going to do to him, but it certainly wasn't anything good.
Fear is a biological instinct. Whether it was the continuous thuds, the constant gunshots and the clanging of blades, or the young girl who should have died but walked freely, everything that happened tonight terrified Mike.
Fortunately, there was a walking stick in the carriage. It had been lying there for a long time and finally came in handy tonight.
Mike frantically grabbed his cane and repeatedly poked the girl's body outside the door with the tip to prevent her from crawling into the carriage and getting any closer to him.
If the girl were just an ordinary girl, Mike might have succeeded in saving himself, but the girl was a corpse controlled by a mutated power, and Mike's stabbing had no effect.
The girl's pale hand gripped the cane, and her strength, so disproportionate to her frail figure, was enough to forcibly pull Mike, at the other end of the cane, out of the carriage.
Fortunately, the cane was no ordinary cane. Unable to win the struggle, Mike pressed the mechanism on the handle, and the cane instantly split in two. The handle and the short sword extending from it were in Mike's hand, while the shaft and tip were in the girl's hand.
Mike waved his short sword haphazardly in the carriage. He was still young after all, and he forgot most of the self-defense techniques he had learned in the critical moment.
The girl's body moved closer to the carriage again. She had just raised her leg, but before it could fall, she was sent flying with a thud, flying more than ten steps away.
The girl's body, which had fallen to the ground, could not stand up again. All her bones were broken, and her body was limp like a puddle of mud. Dark red blood seeped from under her skin, as if she had just been hit by a speeding train.
Rupert was the one who hit the girl. Killing Larry Berbick was important, but protecting Mike was even more important.
Rupert first beat Berbick, who was also a sadist, to death, and then smashed the corpse of the girl who was controlled by the mutant power, but the crisis was not over.
The horse pulling the carriage neighed, and the carriage lurched forward. Just as Rupert struck the girl, someone quietly climbed onto the carriage, intending to kidnap both the girl and the carriage.
