Chapter 51 One Day at the Water Gate
Chapter 51 One Day at the Water Gate
At 4:30 a.m., everything was asleep.
The sky outside the window was a deep blue-purple, and the air was chilly with dew.
Minato Namikaze opened his eyes right on time. Without lingering in bed, he threw off the covers, quickly washed up, straightened his somewhat messy blond hair, and then skillfully fastened his ninja tool pouch.
On the table was a notebook with curled edges, which was Nishikawa Tetsu's "A Fluid Dynamics Conjecture on the Disordered Rotation of Chakra" given to him.
Minato picked up the notebook, glanced at the complicated formulas in the dim morning light, rubbed his temples with a wry smile, and then stuffed it into his pocket.
Although I don't understand the process, the conclusion is very useful.
Ten minutes later, at the third training ground.
"Bang!"
A muffled thud.
The rubber ball in Minato's hand exploded, sending fragments flying everywhere.
But he didn't show any satisfaction. Instead, he looked at the rapidly dissipating blue energy in his palm and shook his head.
"The power is sufficient, but it only lasts for two seconds."
He took out another specially made Flying Thunder God kunai from his ninja tool bag.
Some time ago, under the instruction of the Third Hokage, he had come into contact with the Book of Seals.
The space-time ninjutsu that deterred countless people was like an exquisite painting in his eyes.
"Whoosh!"
The kunai was thrown into the air.
The figure flashed by, but unfortunately the distance was too far off.
"As expected of a forbidden technique developed by the Second Hokage, it's truly difficult to master."
Minato took a breath, took out a bottle of electrolyte drink specially made by Nishikawa Tetsu and took a swig. Last time, Tetsu forced several cases of it to come back with him.
Sweat trickled down his angular jawline and dripped onto the dry soil.
This is the other side of genius – tedious and high-intensity training.
……
8:00 AM, Konoha Police Department Building.
Minato, dressed in a crisp dark blue uniform, appeared in front of the time clock on time.
"Good morning, Watergate advisor."
A member of the Hyuga branch family passed by and greeted them.
"Good morning," Minato replied with a smile, revealing a set of white teeth.
As soon as he entered the office, he heard arguing coming from the other end of the corridor.
"According to the new regulations, you can't set up a stall here! Can't you understand human language?"
An Uchiha member stood with a dark expression, his hand on the lightning baton at his waist, facing an old farmer pushing a cart, trembling with fear.
"But...but it used to be sold here..." the old farmer said, his voice trembling with tears.
"The past is the past! Now, violations will result in fines! And our tools will be confiscated!" The Uchiha member was getting impatient and instinctively reached out to pull the cart.
A hand gently pressed on his shoulder.
"Hima-senpai, calm down."
The sound of water gate gently interrupted.
Uchiha Hima turned around and saw the blond hair. His tense face twitched, and although reluctant, he released his grip: "Minato, this old man is being unreasonable and blocking the patrol passage."
"Leave it to me."
Shuimen stepped forward, but instead of looking at the illegal cart, he first helped the old farmer pick up a few tomatoes that had fallen to the ground.
"Uncle, this is indeed a fire lane. If there's a fire, this vehicle will block the rescue." Minato handed over the tomato, his tone sincere.
"In that case, everyone on the street would be in danger, including yourself."
The old farmer paused for a moment, looking at the smiling young man before him, his initial hostility largely dissipating: "Is...is it that serious?"
"Yes, but on the third vacant lot two blocks away, the police department has set up a new temporary stall area. There are no stall fees there, and there are rain shelters."
Minato pulled a simple map out of his pocket; it was one that Nara Shikaku had just drawn yesterday.
"You can go there; it's safer than here, and your business will be better."
The old farmer took the map, thanked him profusely, and pushed his cart away.
Uchiha Hima watched this scene from the side, and awkwardly pouted, "You're such a good guy. If it were before..."
"The old methods only made people afraid of us." Minato patted Hima on the shoulder and pointed around.
Several villagers who had been watching the commotion were now pointing and whispering about them, but their eyes showed no fear, only admiration.
"Look, this is what Captain Fugaku meant by human nature."
Kama paused for a moment, snorted coldly, and turned to leave, but the hand that was pressing on the baton loosened its grip.
For the rest of the day, Watergate was like a firefighter.
Deal with drunken and disorderly ninjas, search for lost pets, and review reports on patrol routes.
His figure moved about inside the police department building, his blond hair becoming the busiest sight there.
……
At six o'clock in the evening, the setting sun dyed Huoying Rock red.
Minato took off his uniform, changed back into civilian clothes, and appeared on time at the riverbank near the Konoha Ninja Academy.
Instead of walking directly over, he leaned against a willow tree, seemingly admiring the scenery, but his gaze actually swept over several hidden corners around him.
Behind the large tree at three o'clock, in the shadow of the roof at six o'clock.
Two secret agents.
That was Kushina's "shadow".
A moment later, a red figure came into view.
Kushina Uzumaki stood with her hands behind her back, kicking pebbles by the roadside and humming an unknown tune, looking to be in a good mood.
When she saw the water gate under the tree, her steps became noticeably lighter, but she quickly slowed down again, pretending it was a chance encounter.
"Hey, isn't this our busyest guy from the police department?"
Kushina walked up to him, raising her chin: "What brings you here today?"
"I was off work and just stopped by on my way." Minato didn't expose her little scheme of taking a detour.
"Since it's on the way... I'll reluctantly let you walk with me for a while." Kushina walked ahead with her hands behind her back, her long red hair gleaming in the sunset.
The two walked slowly along the riverbank.
"How was your day at the police station? Did those Uchiha guys bully you?" Kushina asked, her tone carrying a hint of concern that she herself didn't realize.
"That's good, everyone's trying to make changes." Minato smiled. "But how's your sealing technique training going?"
"Don't even mention it!"
Kushina deflated like a punctured balloon, clenching her fist: "Grandma Mito is very patient, but the sealing techniques I've been learning lately are too difficult! And those Anbu members, they're always watching me, it's so annoying!"
She lowered her voice, her eyes somewhat dim: "Sometimes I really want to punch each of them and then run out of the village."
Minato remained silent for a moment.
He knew that as the future Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, Kushina was enduring unimaginable pressure and loneliness, so he didn't spout any grand principles about the village.
Shuimen suddenly stopped and pointed to a roadside stall not far away.
"That's a newly opened ramen shop. I heard they have an extra-spicy 'Hell Ramen'."
Kushina's eyes lit up instantly, a natural yearning from a member of the Uzumaki clan for extreme flavors: "Really? How spicy?"
"I heard it's so spicy it makes you breathe fire." Minato held out his hand. "Want to give it a try? If you win, it's on me."
"Ha! How dare you underestimate me!" Kushina grabbed Minato's wrist and dragged him away.
The loser has to drink all the soup!
The two hidden agents exchanged a glance and reluctantly followed, but deliberately kept a greater distance.
The ramen shop was steaming hot.
Kushina's face turned bright red from the spiciness, and she kept gasping for breath, but the gloom on her face vanished.
Minato handed her water, watching her eat noodles with gusto without any regard for her image, and he couldn't hide the smile on his face.
After finishing their noodles, the two walked home.
As night fell, the streetlights cast long shadows of the two people.
As they approached Kushina's residence, there was an invisible barrier, which was also the end of her freedom.
"We've arrived." Kushina stopped and turned to look at Minato.
"Hmm." Minato nodded.
"Um..." Kushina touched the red hair clip in her hair a little awkwardly, "The ramen tasted pretty good today."
"I'll take you there to eat again next time."
Minato looked at her and suddenly took a step forward.
The surrounding darkness instantly tensed up.
But Minato simply reached out and gently plucked a willow leaf that had fallen on her shoulder.
"Get some rest, Kushina."
His voice was soft, yet clear: "No matter how closely those shadows follow, turn back whenever you need to."
"I'm here."
Kushina was stunned, and a blush quickly crept up her cheeks.
"Idiot...idiot!"
She cursed, turned and ran into the barrier, her long red hair drawing a chaotic arc in the night wind.
Minato stood there, watching the light in her room come on, before turning and leaving.
In the instant he turned around, his eyes sharpened, his gaze sweeping over the two hiding places of the secret agents, and he nodded slightly, as if to greet them.
Then, a flash of golden light appeared.
He disappeared into the night and returned to his apartment.
A fulfilling day has come to an end.
In order to stand beside her more openly, and in order to truly change this village.
Tomorrow, we must continue to grow stronger.
