Chapter 895: A Brief Account of Daily Life
"To celebrate the great victory of the Avengers," Thor, a Viking barbarian, raised his glass with great gusto. For Vikings, victory and glorious death in battle were the two most important things in their lives. But death in battle was obviously a long way off for Thor, so enjoying victory was Thor's greatest joy.
But to be fair, Thor has never lost.
Everyone else, except Peter, naturally raised their beers. The Avengers had expanded from the initial six (or five) to ten. Tony glanced at Bob and Vision, then returned to the old topic: "I still think it's not lively enough. We should have more people. If you ask me, Matthew Ellis shouldn't have created this Ultimate Team. It would have been so much easier to bring Carol and the others to our side."
"I don't think this is a good idea." Banner yawned, his beer still untouched. "Hulk will definitely smash the Avengers base with Ross first."
Tony, who hadn't received any information yet, looked at Banner curiously: "What's wrong? What happened to Ross again?"
"Oh, it's nothing. He turned himself into the Hulk, only in red."
After listening, Tony expressed his understanding: "Then I still think the green Hulk is better."
"If that's the case," Bumblebee countered after taking a sip of his drink, "then why not give every superhero an Avenger's ID card? Everyone would be an Avenger, wouldn't that be better?"
Tony paused for a moment, then replied, "In that case, isn't it the same as having no Avengers at all?"
Bumblebee didn't understand Tony's meaning at all, while Captain America explained it a little: "If we give every superhero an Avenger identity card, we can certainly expand the Avengers team quickly, but firstly, we can't be sure if they are suitable for the mission we are facing, and secondly, an overly complicated and free team is not suitable for unified action, and it is difficult to judge each person's stance when recruiting members randomly."
Although it sounds like the Avengers have some kind of strict vetting process, what he said is quite true. After the captain finished speaking, the atmosphere became a bit tense. Just then, Vision walked through the wall and lightened the mood: "I brought all the gifts for everyone. One of the great things about being able to travel the world quickly is being able to collect gifts from all over the world, huh?"
What are people talking about?
"We were talking about the Ultimate Team." Peter didn't think it was entirely a lie: "The Ultimate Team currently has four members who can go toe-to-toe with the Avengers, except for Carol."
As Vision landed and piled a huge stack of presents under the Christmas tree, he replied, "If we're talking about this, then without a doubt, the Avenger most similar to Ms. Carol is actually me."
Everyone fell silent for a moment, then burst into laughter. Vision's answer wasn't exactly wrong, but it was certainly unexpected. Only Vision looked helpless: "I'm telling the truth. In terms of ability and combat strength, I'm evenly matched with Ms. Carol."
"This is just... too outrageous, that's all I can say." After a while, Tony couldn't help but stop smiling. "But even so, the Ultimate Team only has five people, less than half of us. If they want to catch up with the Avengers, it will be very difficult. For example, Astra and Goliath are both in the Thunder, and they can't find anyone to cosplay Pym."
And then there's T'Challa. Where are they going to find someone who's comparable to T'Challa?
At this point, Pym remembered someone: "Perhaps they could approach Namor; at least Namor and T'Challa are on the same level in terms of status."
"Impossible, absolutely impossible."
Banner quickly shook his head: "Namor is the leader of another regime, the head of state. This means he is completely outside the control of the United States. The purpose of Ultimate Team was to give the US government its own superhero force. With Namor, it becomes completely ineffective."
The Avengers can have members from other countries, including heads of state, but the Ultimate Team can't.
As they were talking, the last person active in the conversation appeared. T'Challa arrived at the event center almost right on time, wearing a purple robe with gold trim, which looked like a modernized version of some traditional Wakanda clothing: "I think I heard Namor's name. What's wrong?"
"We were saying that it's pretty boring that Team Ultimate would never let Namo join."
Tony yawned as he spoke, then saw several members of the Wakanda Guard walk over from behind Black Panther and help put down a bunch of packed Christmas gifts.
"Wakanda doesn't celebrate Christmas, but I'm going to follow local customs, and I think Christmas is a good time to give gifts to friends."
After T'Challa finished speaking, he waved to the guards, telling them they could go back now. Then he picked up a can of beer. Tony first looked at the Christmas tree, which was already piled high with decorations, and then looked at T'Challa: "Let's get this straight, T'Challa, everyone except Peter is drinking today, and Peter doesn't have a driver's license. If you're planning to go home by yourself, you'd better think twice about whether you can even make it back."
"First of all, as the King of Wakanda, I won't drink too much. Secondly, I think Avengers Base should have a room prepared for me, right, Stark?"
Tony laughed. Of course there was some, but he decided to tease T'Challa, who was the least familiar with the team: "Maybe there is, but it's hard to say whether the room I arranged for you will meet your expectations. After all, you don't have time to check the decorations."
Upon hearing this, T'Challa remained nonchalant: "It's nothing. At worst, I'll go to Xavier's Academy for Gifted Youngsters and share a room with Ororo. I don't think Charles Xavier will have any objections."
Tony clicked his tongue, realizing that T'Challa seemed to be the only married person in the room. The captain, hearing the question, laughed and looked at Tony: "When are you and Pepper planning to get married, Tony?"
"We're not planning to jump into the grave of love so quickly—what about you, Captain? Have you found a suitable girl in modern times?"
"I'm out of step with modern values, so—"
The topic inexplicably shifted to relationships, and Bob, somewhat strangely, approached Peter, who seemed the least likely to have a girlfriend, and asked, "Does everyone have a girlfriend?"
"Without a doubt, at least I don't have it now, and neither does Vision."
