Chapter 520: The Painful Barris Offee
Barriss Offee was in a state of confusion, not knowing what to do. Behind her was the ragged Aubrey Wing, his companion and her friend. And in front of her was her comrade who had fought alongside her in Jabiim, but now had become a puppet of Ultron.
They were the Padawan, a united team. But now, they are just the walking dead, controlled by Ultron.
"Oh... look how much work I put into weaving this all together." Ultron's voice came from somewhere, blending with Wabesh's. He raised a hand and flexed his fingers a few times. "The Jedi are always unpredictable. I moved a few bodies around, and finally started to get some responses."
Then, Zurer's body shook with laughter, her single eye flashing with malice, in stark contrast to her mechanized normal eye.
"The Force can always bring pain when it needs it." A mixed voice of Ultron and Zulu sounded. "To be honest, I am a little fascinated by this body. She already has a mechanical arm, so I just need to repair it a little bit."
Barris glared at him angrily, his back turned to Aubrey, feeling helpless and hopeless.
"Hmm? What is this? Anger? True emotion?" Tydias tilted his head, a creepy smile on his face, covered with metallic gray veins and red eyes. "I thought you Jedi Knights wouldn't have such an obvious weakness."
Barriss simply raised her lightsaber, while Aubrey held on to her Jedi comrade tightly, fear in her eyes.
"Ah..." Elora Sand's voice sounded, and her voice had been completely replaced by Ultron's. "Yes, I can smell the fear on you. This is the benefit of using the physical body."
Barriss Offee's hand clenched the lightsaber tightly, as if she could feel the vibrations coming from it. An indescribable feeling of disgust surged in her heart, as if the whole world had become distorted. She couldn't help but take a step back, her eyes wandering around.
She noticed Aubrey staring at her dead and possessed friend, then turned to her, meeting her gaze, Barriss sensed the uneasy atmosphere around her, she was filled with obvious fear, but still stood strong, like a stubborn plant standing in a storm.
Aubrey couldn't continue fighting now, she needed to protect Aubrey. Barris's eyes fell on the group of puppets ready to go, ignited the lightsaber, and raised it high in the air.
The room suddenly fell into silence, with only the humming sound of the lightsaber echoing. Barriss was ready for battle, her eyes firm and sharp.
The enemies attacked quickly, allowing her to take turns. Using the foundation of her third form, she nimbly deflected each lightsaber that came at her. She jumped back, grabbing Aubrey at the same time, and arced through the air, landing steadily next to the door. She raised her lightsaber and tried her best to block Zurer's attack.
Her heart was full of struggle and pain, she hated to do this, but she had to push Aubrey away before Xander stabbed her. Barris heard Aubrey crying, frowning, she turned her head and saw Wabesh staring at her.
"Barris!" Wabesh's voice came, shaking Barris's heart. "How could you do that to Aubrey? Can't you see? She's hurt."
Barriss felt the warning from the Force, her breath caught in her throat. She deftly stepped aside just as Wabesh nearly cut her arm. She didn't dodge, but used the Force to dissipate the force and push it away.
"Barris!" Zurer yelled, "We are friends, what are you doing?!"
Barris gritted her teeth and focused all her strength on the lightsaber. Every swing made Zurer stumble back. She roared, "Shut up! Stop talking, you monster!"
"How can you say that, Barriss?" Xander said in mock grief. "We are all Jedi, aren't we? We are brothers in arms."
"You are all dead!" Barris screamed frantically.
"But we are still Jedi." Teidias retorted, his eyes firm, "Look at us, you understand that we are still part of the Jedi."
Barris angrily shouted, "Shut up!" Her voice was filled with grief and anger.
Just as several of her friends, possessed by dark forces, pounced on her, she dodged skillfully.
"Barris..." Wendo Ned said softly, "What would your master want you to do?"
Barris raised his lightsaber in time at the critical moment and blocked the attack of Tydias. The machine-upgraded arm pushed Barris's blue lightsaber back.
Barris turned her gaze to her fallen comrade, and she saw the glowing red eyes and the malicious smile. The sight made her heart sink.
She took a deep breath and tried to calm her inner turmoil. She shook her head slowly and sheathed her lightsaber. She knew that although these people wore the faces of their former companions, they were no longer themselves.
She stumbled back, lightsaber raised high, and five puppets surrounded her. Her eyes quickly swept across their faces, and the light in each of them told her that they were no longer there, just shells.
Ultron took on their faces and their bodies, and Barris had to remember that these were not her fellow Padawans, they were long gone.
"Please forgive me," Barris thought, silently as she fended off another attack from Tydias, his chest exposed to her blows.
She took a deep breath and used her lightsaber to split the puppet's body. Her heart was filled with determination and grief.
"To act so decisively against your comrades..."
But Barriss acted on instinct, quickly turning her lightsaber toward the source of the sound. The next moment, she noticed another golem lying on the ground, with the upper body of Elora Sand lying next to her.
This scene made Barris feel disgusted and guilty. She had the urge to collapse and cry. However, what choice did she have?
"Barris!"
Aubrey's voice suddenly rang out, but it was too late - Zulu had already appeared in front of Barris.
Just as she was about to be knocked down, a mysterious force pushed Zurer away. She looked back and saw Ayla Secura appeared, followed by Master Pierre. Ant-Man and the Wasp rushed into the room, and the atmosphere became tense. Master Evan Pierre looked at the scene in front of him and reacted quickly, his face full of despair and regret.
"No… I don't want this to be true," he whispered to himself, a deep sadness in his voice.
Ella looked at him suspiciously, her eyes full of confusion, "What's not true? What are you talking about..."
At this moment, Ella's eyes gradually widened, and she began to realize that the situation before her was far more complicated than she had imagined.
“Master Pierre…” Ella’s voice began to tremble, “That…that is…they are in Jabimu…”
"Surprised?" A sinister voice suddenly sounded, and it turned out that Wabesh turned to them.
The Wasp and Ant-Man were frightened by this sudden change and took a few steps back. Both Avengers' faces were filled with surprise.
"Wait..." Ant-Man frowned, deep in thought. "Have we seen them before?"
"They are the Padawans," Barriss began slowly, helping Aubrey towards them, "They are from the distant planet of Jabiim."
The Wasp glanced at Barris, then turned her gaze to the girl that Barris was supporting.
"Oh my God, what happened to her?!" she exclaimed.
"The same fate will befall all of you," the remaining three puppets replied coldly.
Aayla's eyes widened, and a sense of foreboding enveloped her. The Force flowed around her in an unsettling way. In just a moment, she understood everything in front of her, connecting all the dots.
"You...you horrible monster!" She pointed in a certain direction angrily.
"Monster?" Ultron asked contemptuously, with a sneer on his face. "Are things or people you don't understand monsters? Tell me..."
At the moment the possessed corpse was killed, Barris trembled and used his arms to chop the head off the shoulders. This bloody scene frightened Ant-Man and he stepped back repeatedly, waving his arms. "What the hell is going on?!" He asked in horror. "You said they were your friends before, right?"
Aubrey spoke, her voice full of broken pain. "They weren't themselves anymore. I felt like they were dead. It was Ultron...he took them.
Pierre's expression was serious and heavy. He hesitated for a moment, then shook his head helplessly.
"We will do everything we can," he said firmly, "for their sacrifice."
"Wait." The Wasp interrupted, stuttering, "Is there really nothing we can do? Can't we rescue them?"
Ultron raised his eyebrows in a dramatic way, as if mocking, "Do you really think you can save them? This is the reality you don't want to face. It is the inevitable result of evolution. This is the ending that you guys refuse to admit-"
