Chapter 519: Horror Castle
Chapter 519: Horror Castle
Barriss Offee quietly turned in the direction the Jedi Master pointed. In front of her was a deep corridor with a door looming at the end.
Her breathing began to quicken, as if the door led to an unknown abyss. Her abdomen seemed to be pressed by a heavy iron stone, her heart was pounding, and cold sweat was dripping from her forehead like a stream. She felt the oppressive ominous feeling in the Force, and this feeling was multiplied at this moment. Despite this, Barriss still moved forward cautiously.
For Barris, this was a strange and frightening journey. Everything around her seemed to become dull and depressing, and the noisy voices in the distance seemed to be drowned out by an invisible force. Her eyes were fixed on the door in front of her, so much so that she didn't even realize that she had arrived at her destination.
She raised her hand tremblingly, as if she had no control over it, and used the Force to open the door. Then, she pushed the door open and stepped into a dark space.
When the lights in the room came on, she was temporarily blinded, and as her eyes adjusted to the brightness, she saw a scene that could only be described as a "nightmare."
She quickly realized that what she saw was not one or two faces, but six faces that she was very familiar with - people she had fought alongside. She recognized them at a glance, but when she saw their current appearance, she was deeply shocked.
Barris's face turned pale instantly, and fear left an indelible mark on her face. She couldn't understand what she was witnessing. One hand tightly covered her mouth, her breathing became unstable, and her vision began to blur.
These were people she had known and understood, people who had fought alongside her not long ago. She remembered some falling and some surviving. But now, there were only these cold bodies.
An overwhelming sense of death enveloped Miriam Padawan, and she began to cough, tears streaming down her cheeks. She staggered to her knees, looking up at the bodies of those she knew, and tears fell again. At this moment, Barris' heart was filled with unspeakable grief and shock.
Aubrey Wing, Tydias, Elora Sand, Windo Ned, Zule Sis, Wabesh...all those who fought alongside her in Jabimu.
Not long ago, Mark Lotor and Cas Todd returned to the temple, and Barris recalled her meeting with them a few days ago. However, the scene before her made her full of doubts: How did they all gather here?
An unsettling guess suddenly emerged in Barris' mind. She looked around at her companions who died in the Battle of Jabimu and recalled the mission of this trip - to rescue Master Evan Peel who was kidnapped by Ultron.
But how did Ultron kidnap these people? Why didn't the Order report these abductions? What exactly happened in the galaxy? And most importantly, why are they here?
Barriss couldn't think deeply about these questions because she heard a painful gasp from a Padawan. She immediately rushed to the newly awakened person.
"Aubrey." She called out, wiping away her tears. Although tears welled up in her eyes again a moment later, she had to stay awake at this moment.
Barris checked her physical condition and found that Aubrey's body was covered with some unknown substance, many tubes were inserted into her body, and a silver liquid was flowing into her blood vessels through the tubes.
Barris wanted to rip them out, but she didn't dare to act rashly, and although Aubrey might be feeling uneasy and in pain right now, anything as drastic as pulling out those tubes could be dangerous, even fatal if she wasn't careful.
Suddenly, Aubrey's eyes shot open and she cried out in pain as Barris tried to pull out a tube.
"Aubrey, calm down." Barris said hurriedly, her voice full of tension and anxiety. "Aubrey, it's me! Barris. You must remain calm and lie still."
The Padawan on the table was struggling and Baris tried his best to calm her down.
"Aubrey!" Barris' voice was almost shouting, her companion Padawan struggling and her heart was broken. "Listen to my voice, focus on me..."
"-Barris?" Aubrey Wing asked weakly, her voice hoarse and weak. "Is it really you?"
Barriss held her hand in the air as she used her Force healing powers to try to comfort her. Carefully, she began healing with one hand, gently pulling out a tube.
Despite knowing it might be painful, her hands continued to work.
"Yes, Aubrey, I'm here." Barris' voice was filled with a hint of frantic urgency. "Just lie still and stay calm. I'll get you out of this place."
"What happened?" Aubrey's voice was filled with pain and confusion.
Then she began to tremble slightly and tears fell from the corners of her eyes.
"I... they... hurt, Barris," she whispered, her voice shaking. "Why does it hurt so much? Barris, are you there?"
"I'm here, Aubrey," Barris said in a voice that was filled with endless comfort. "Calm down and let me focus on helping you."
Desperate, she reached out a hand to her companion and grasped Barris' arm. "Barris, please, make the sound stop."
"Voice?" Barris asked tentatively.
"They were screaming," Aubrey said, crying. "They were already dead, but he brought them back. He didn't care about our pain, he kept torturing and reforming them."
"I hear it." Aubrey's tears continued to flow. "Through the Force, I can hear their voices. The screams of their souls. Barriss, please, make it stop. Please, please, please, save them."
Aubrey's cries of fear and collapse made Barris a little flustered.
Barriss's trembling was uncontrollable. She had never experienced such pain before, so much so that she forgot to use the Force to heal herself. She covered her mouth with her hands, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Barris witnessed Aubrey's painful struggle, she withdrew her thoughts and prayed to the Force, hoping it would give her the strength to save Aubrey.
Despite her internal conflict and reluctance to face the reality before her, Barriss couldn't look away from the five bodies that had been transformed. Their bodies had been tampered with, their limbs replaced, and their heads covered in metal that resembled Ultron. The most heartbreaking were the changes to Wabesh and Xander. Wabesh's chest had been opened, his internal organs replaced with wires and metal. Xander had been mercilessly torn in half.
Barris couldn't bear to look at this tragic scene, so she forced herself to turn her gaze to Aubrey and concentrate on treating him.
She was almost done, almost all the tubes had been taken out, only the last few remaining.
"Barris," Aubrey's voice echoed in the air. "The others...they..."
Barris interrupted her quietly, adjusting his stance to make sure Aubrey's eyes weren't in the direction of the dead and deformed Padawans. "Aubrey, don't look at them."
"--Can--"
"Oh, come on." A vicious metallic voice suddenly came out, "Why not give her a chance to see her new friends and their progress?"
Barris turned around slowly, and the scene before her seemed like something out of a nightmare. She saw the five dead Padawans, their eyes glowing red.
"Come on, Barris." Ultron's voice came from Tethys' mouth, "Aubrey should at least take a good look at what she will become."
"Yeah~ Don't deprive her of the opportunity and see what evolution will bring her." Wabesh's voice mixed with Ultron's.
Aubrey was watching all this in horror, holding onto Barris tightly for a sense of security.
"Oh~~~" Zuler's corpse spoke at this moment, with a sadistic smile on her face, and her right eye was replaced by the helmet of the Ultron drone, emitting a red light. "Did I see anger? Aren't you Jedi Knights supposed to pursue peace and love and those false ideas?"
Barriss was ready to lunge at the AIs, but she hesitated. Even though they were dead now, they were still the faces of her fellow Padawans. The Jedi she had fought beside on Jabium. Even though their bodies were shattered, she didn't want to add to their pain. Barriss was eager to recover their remains, to give these brave Jedi the burials they deserved.
At this moment, Aubrey's situation was even more urgent. She was clearly in no condition to continue fighting.
The first priority is to get her away from this dangerous place.
However, Ultron seemed to have made some kind of plan. The bodies of Tydias, Zulu and Windo Ned began to move. They seemed to be injected with new strength and slowly stood up. Their once dull eyes now flashed red and stared directly at Barris.
Barris instinctively stood in front of Aubrey, who huddled close to the corner. Barris ignited her lightsaber and held it high in her hand as she watched the body of her fallen Padawan brother come forward.
"So," five voices said at the same time, "Can we start the game?"
