Chapter 893 Don't Forget the Villains
Although Bob has awakened the Sentinel's abilities, he doesn't seem to like them very much. And indeed, given Bob's personal situation, most people don't really approve of him becoming a Sentinel.
But Peter hadn't expected him to be washing dishes there.
"I'll help."
"Oh, no, I just have nothing to do. Apart from Vision, Dr. Banner, and me, nobody really lives in the base regularly—the captain said he'd be moving in."
"It's not that they're going to move in, it's that they've already moved in."
As the team leader spoke, he walked into the activity center, skillfully tied on his apron, and washed dishes with Bob: "I went back to my apartment last night to move my things over, but there was a big power outage, so nobody paid any attention to me."
"Speaking of which, Peter, did you come directly through the Slaughterhouse Gate?"
While washing dishes, the captain said, "You should go out and take a look. Pym and Tony put a huge Christmas tree in the yard—I've never seen a Christmas tree that big except for the one at Rockefeller Center."
"Wait, isn't there a Christmas tree here?"
Peter pointed to the Christmas tree in the activity center and asked curiously. The captain frowned after looking at it, then relaxed and said, "Oh, that's a Christmas tree for putting presents. Everyone put their presents under the Christmas tree."
"I give—"
"It's alright, there's no need to prepare gifts for us all."
The captain interrupted Peter with a single sentence. Peter nodded; he figured he could just pile the presents under the Christmas tree later. He looked around and, noticing only Bob and the captain were there, asked, "Where is everyone else?"
"T'Challa might not come, but he said he could make time. After all, Wakanda doesn't celebrate Christmas, and he doesn't need to be there for the holiday. Tony is still out there, as is Thor. Banner is probably in the lab, and I'm not too sure about Hornet."
Then the captain seemed to remember something and continued, "By the way, Pym is in the mansion prison, supposedly planning to decorate it with some festive atmosphere for the prisoners."
"I'll go see him." Peter immediately stood up. "And while I'm at it, I'll also visit a few old friends. Oh, I need to get everything ready for them."
The "old friends" he was referring to were, of course, the villains. Peter carried a huge pile of stuff into the mansion prison.
The mansion prison was built by Pym, but with Tony's involvement, it's in a transitional phase between humanitarian and disciplinary prison functions. Each prisoner lives in a single cell, each room being about ten square meters. The room has three walls, and the other side is a transparent shield made of pure force field, ensuring the guards have a clear view of everything.
However, in terms of interior design, at least everything is provided. The small room has a private bathroom, and there are tables, chairs, and benches. Tony has complained more than once that these prisoners are probably living too comfortably.
But this was already the result of Pym's compromise.
The prison guards have been replaced by Iron Legion robots instead of the original Ultron robots.
Peter first went to the terrifying cell, where the terrifying one was wearing glasses and reading a book. Hearing someone cough, he turned around and saw Spider-Man. The terrifying one gave a surprised "Hey!" and got up to walk over to Peter.
"Long time no see, Spider-Man! How have you been?"
"Still the same as before. How have you been lately, Hermann?"
"I'm fine—Hank Pym suggested I take the college entrance exam while I'm in prison, but I'm a little worried about it." Herman shrugged nonchalantly. Peter opened a small hole in the force field and handed Herman the Christmas presents he had prepared for him: "Here you go, Herman, both of these."
"Two gifts?"
"One is for you, and the other is for your mother. She made you some food, it's still hot. We were supposed to call each other, but something went wrong, so we can't make a call now."
After a long silence, Hermann smiled, accepted the gift, and said thank you.
"You know what, Spider-Man, I recently dreamt about Otto Octavia. Actually, when he was on the raft—he invited me out," Herman said, leaning against the wall. "He told me, 'Spider-Man has forgotten you, the world has forgotten you, nobody remembers who you are. Why don't you go out and make sure the world never forgets you?'"
"But you didn't agree to him, did you?"
Upon hearing this answer, Jing Song simply smiled and nodded.
Peter went to Herman's next-door apartment, where Mysterio Quentin Baker looked much thinner and was sitting on the bed watching a movie that had been played countless times on TV.
He was very sensitive; almost the instant Peter appeared in his peripheral vision, he shuddered and trembled on the bed. He knew that Peter had come to his cell, opened a small hole in the force field, and handed over the gift.
"Quentin, your gift."
"Oh, oh, thank you."
Quentin quickly grabbed the gift, then hurriedly opened the box, only to find some new movies he had never seen before.
"These are all movies from this year, ranked by their special effects. I think you'll probably like this one."
"Ah, I—thank you, Spider-Man."
Quentin nodded, wanting to go exchange the disc, but seemed hesitant, and finally sat on the bed. Peter stared at him for a while before speaking: "My friend used your helmet very well and saved many people."
"Oh, uh, I—"
Quentin became flustered again, and seeing Peter about to leave, he quickly apologized.
Peter then proceeded to another prison area. Of the Sinister Six, excluding the dead, only Rhino and Mysterio were imprisoned with Peter. Electro, on the other hand, was kept in the MRD's mutant prison, where they were more specialized.
So Peter naturally came here to see the rhinoceros man. This big guy's room is also bigger and has a stronger security level.
But the rhinoceros man just sat there the whole time.
Peter walked to the rhinoceros's cell and watched as the man repeatedly looked at the letter his wife had written. After a while, Peter spoke, "Hey, Alex?"
"Um, hello Spider-Man."
"I have some Christmas presents for you, some little things. But besides that, I have news for you. I've found a way to save your wife."
The Rhino Man's massive body froze. His wife had a genetic disease, which was why he was tricked by Otto Octavia into joining the Sinister Six. However, Otto's cloning therapy did not achieve the desired effect. On the contrary, due to the flaws in the cloning technology, it greatly accelerated the aging process.
The only solution is to continuously replace the clone body.
But Peter did find a solution: another cloning technique for the jackal, which could solve the cloning defects of the rhinoceros wife.
The rhinoceros-man turned around, trembling, and looked at Peter; the huge man's eyes were full of tears.
"Thank you, Spider-Man."
